kayanlau: They obviously name it Murderkill for a reason. Likely not for its safety record.

It was named by Dutch immigrants.

Mother is from the word "modder", which means filthy or muddy.

Kill is from the word "kille", which means river.

Later, when the English took over the area, they did the same thing they always do and added river to the name again, making it the "Muddy River" River.

It's pronounced Skool-kill.


I've only ever heard it slurred more as "skoogle".

I live in Schuylkill County. Trust me.

Oh, no, I know it's supposed to be pronounced "skool kill", I've just only ever heard it pronounced (to my ears) as "skoogle" (the 'oo' as in 'book').
