Trump is covering up Russia's bounty cash to the Taliban for killing Americans, and Turtle is worried things will be difficult for Senate republicans if the democrats win in November.

Don't want the filibuster changed? Don't use it in bad faith like you constantly did with Obama.

Wow, he sounds so down-home and folksy, you can't help but trust him.

The whole concept of the fillibuster is...special needs. It has grown men wasting tax payer money reading Green Eggs and Ham. Our whole Goddamn system of government is so farking broken.

If it required a senator to stand at the podium and talk until he could talk no more or yield the floor then I would be fine with that.  Let it be a senator's personal stand.

The filibuster as it sits is a joke and should be abolished.

Redistricting happens anyway, but that's up to the states themselves.

ArkPanda: I'm interested in seeing what the Democratic leadership does with all the rules McConnell put in for himself saying the Majority Leader is God.

I'm not.  Senate Majority Leader is a massive loophole in the Constitution that's too easily exploited.  They need to reduce the power of the position significantly and give power back to the committee chairs so that we never have to deal with this again.

And I hate to break it to all of you fellow liberal-types...The Republican party will change if they can't win elections. And the new GOP will be something that nearly half of voters agree with.

And that's fine...if both major parties represent the majority of what people want we're ok.

So you are thinking the republican's primary system is going to change and the republican base that has now openly embraced racism but it has been part of republican party for years before trump.  The tea party nutters took over the republican party and aren't going away anytime soon. See gym Jordan, gas pedal, and the Texas nutjob and you see the direction the republicans are going. Universal mail in voting is about the only thing that could change the direction.

They will change to *appear* more like something Americans like.  Just like the Tea Party, it will just be a new name for shoveling money at the wealthy

Ah, I see you've just awoken from a decades long coma.  Welcome back!  You've missed a lot and I'm sure you would like to catch up on what's been happening.  The bad news is that it's not 1999 anymore.  The good news is... well, Marvel actually figured out how to make good super hero movies.  That's pretty much it for good news.  Anyway, here's your mask, stay 6 feet away from everyone, and good luck.

Yes, yes they are. They have the wonderful capability of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

It has been witnessed many times.

They can fix the filibuster rule without losing it. Just go back to the rules where a filibuster requires the senator to stay on his feet talking the entire time. Y'know... an *actual filibuster*. Mitch will crap out pretty quickly.

Yep. Certainly better than doing away with it entirely, and would draw far more attention from the public than the stupid cloture votes. "Oh, the bill lost with 59 yes votes".

Fark that. The Dems need to go nuclear and prosecute the fark out of a LOT of Republicans. Trump, Barr and McConnell, in particular, need to see jail time, and a shiatload of judicial appointments need to be at least reviewed.

Over the last decade at least, the Republican Party has demonstrated, beyond all doubt, that not only are they an enemy of America, but they are the single greatest existential threat America has ever faced. They aid our enemies, deliberately hurt the American people, brazenly ignore the law, and are so flagrantly corrupt that Gilded Age robber barons would tell them to dial it back.

Treating Republicans with kid gloves (perhaps starting when America tolerated the pardon of Nixon) got us to this point, and if we continue to do so, shiat will just get worse. And America can't survive much worse than Trump, if, indeed, it can even survive Trump.

And yet people keep voting for them. It's almost like they approve of their actions or something...

Congress had the chance to kill it in Obama's  first two years and didn't.   Those pesky filibusters "prevented" us from getting real single-payer health care that Democrats pretended to want during his campaign.
