That's great and all but we need some GOP senators to say the same thing.

Or did they receive a different briefing?

War crimes.
Treason.

2020-06-30 10:40:45 AM
All this treason stuff is just Trump playing the long game so we'll all finally say he was hung.

vudukungfu: War crimes.
Treason.

Maybe that shiat will matter now to our representatives in government, but it hasn't for the last few decades so I'm not terribly optimistic about this go-round, either.

One would hope it would be different when they are War Crimes against our own troops.

But this is the GOP we are talking about.

Note that since Trump and his staff found out that Russia is paying the Taliban to kill Americans, Trump has invited Putin and the Taliban each to the U.S., including the Taliban on the anniversary of 9-11

And given Russia a bunch of medical supplies the US could have used

I'm not suggesting more Republicans will turn on Trump but if/when they do, it will be because of something related to soldiers.

No it wont. It will be because he tanks their re-election chances and fundraising.

Because of soldiers or "white power" videos will simply be the excuse.

Never forget that as Republicans, their entire ideology is centered around one simple tenet:  what happens to me is the only thing that matters.

Nope. Conservatives sees them as productive units or transactions. They don't see them as people.

We should totally lift all sanctions on Russia and help them secure Ukraine for themselves. I'm sure the bounties will stop then.

Pretty much. That's why they suddenly found masks in the last week. They are purely covering their own asses. Trump is merely the most aggressive symptom of the GOP party.

I'm actually kind of amazed that this happened, as it is basically an act of war by Russia against the United States, the type of thing (under another President, I guess) that could conceivably start World War III.

He spoke with Putin, who categorically denied involvement, and that's good enough for Trump, because no one ever gets a thing past him.

"Remember that time the president of the United States was told Russia was offering our enemies bounties for dead American soldiers? And when he was told, he did nothing, continued to suck up to Russia, and when he got caught, he lied repeatedly and whined that everyone was being unfair to him? And then the GOP repeated his lies and American soldiers continued to be hunted for bounties because they were too weak to stand up to a fat orange liar because they wanted to be reelected by cultist voters?"

Thanks GOP. Now I get to have this conversation with my kid when she grows up.

This is a FB post an old friend of mine made a few hours ago. He's a Sgt. in the 82nd Airborne. While he has never been a Trump supporter, I'm hoping the military support for republicans in general is fading.

This is a great argument for declassifying the bulk of our intelligence.

With all this shiat stuffed behind the veil of secrecy, who farking knows if the vague euphemized thirdhand hearsay Murphy and the NYT are reporting bears any resemblance to anything? Show us primary sources, or get a named person on record - this "unnamed persons are saying" and "a person with knowledge of events has said" is not accomplishing anything. We'd literally be better off not knowing than having unsourced, un-counterable assertions made with zero evidence or corroboration from any named source.

As a bonus, voters might have some actual information about the leader seeking re-election, rather than relying on the incumbent's reservoir of trust.

// I'm all for Trump facing consequences of his malgovernance, but anonymous allegations made by The Paper of Record are - and we knew this 4 years ago - not moving the needle toward accountability
// the NYT, clinging tightly to The Old Ways in the face of a changing world that requires adaptation?! Heavens, no!

You know if Democrat candidates were on the losing side of polling, or if it was neck in neck, he might be able to make a spurious case that Democrats are manufacturing scandals to get an edge.

But Democrats don't need an edge.

Trump repeated insulted a gold star family. He sneered at McCain for being a POW. Republicans joyfully elected him and still overwhelmingly support him

They've batted away every lifeline they've been thrown these past few days. They are either profoundly stupid or profoundly compromised. As in, directly profiting off of the deaths of American soldiers.

They are going to cling to this turd until it disintegrates and then blame the Democrats for the mess.

We finally have Republicans outraged... but it is at the intelligence community for refusing to act on this intelligence without White House approval.

So far we've got:

It's fake news/hoax.

Okay so the intel exists, but he was never briefed on it

He was briefed on it but it was in a report that he doesn't read

He was briefed on it and knew about it but it wasn't confirmed information so they were waiting to verify the reports first before committing any action.

And somehow he's defending all these positions together.

Maybe Trump just needs a Participation Medal, in Russian.  I'm sure we can cook one up since Fiesta is very postponed this year.   You'd think he was told the only way to get one was to kill U.S. soldiers.

"Whatever" crumples up the briefing papers and shoves them into the pile under Bill Barr's ass.

And if you continue ignoring the facts, more soldiers and marines are going to die.

Yes, yes, trump lied, again, and is betraying the citizens of the country that he "leads", again... blah, blah, blah.
I'm curious about the distinction between soldier and marine. Does that actually mean something, or is it misspoken?

Given Cormyn's comment that this is "normal", I guess the end state will be something like: "It's a good thing that Russia bears the expense of keeping our forces on their toes."
