You might be on to something - maybe we should start acting more like Poland, Serbia, Czechia, etc.  Look at their infection and death rates - astoundingly low (they are some of the ones keeping the overall European average down, BTW,).  Perhaps we can become as insular and homogeneous as Japan.

Well, you are certainly making the case that America has a shiatty education system.

Cherry pick away random things about these countries any way you like, it still doesn't change the fact that America's response has been abysmal, as reflected in the objective data. It also doesn't change the fact that we have lost respect and prominence on the world stage.

Your response isn't surprising. Like the EU, those kids in school were laughing at you, not with you.

Top 10 EU countries, cases per 1M, excluding states less than 100,000 (San Marino, Vatican City, Isle of Man, Liechtenstein, Monaco, the Faeroe Islands, Gibraltar and Andorra.)

1 Luxemborg 6869
2 Sweden 6700
3 Belarus 6574
4 Spain 6338
5 Iceland 5398 (note, only 341K population)
6 Belgium 5300
7 Ireland 5157
8 UK 4606 (does not include the Isle of Man, the Faeroe Islands, and Gibraltar)
10 Russia 4439

Cases per million
USA 8149
Brazil 6510

States worse than the US (skipping the tiny ones listed above) in cases per million.
Qatar 34,222
Bahrain 15,430
Chile 14,616
French Guiana 13410 (only 298K population)
Kuwait 10,818
Mayotte 9544 (only 272K)
Armenia 8620
Peru 8565

So, America is not the worst in terms of cases per million but is definitely near the top, and is absolute worst in absolute cases.

Religion and the nuclear family is mocked now. With those going away, something was going to come in a fill the void. Narcissism and consumerism seems to be taking the lead.

Horse hockey. The "nuclear family" was *invented around WWI as a way to sell more products. Before then, multigenerational living was *normal*. So was sharing houses (my grandmother's house was a boarding house during the Great Depression (as opposed to the current Trump Depression))..

And religion mocks itself when it tells you who to vote for, and who to hate.

Consumerism is an invention of the ultrawealthy... I mean, how else are they going to get their money that's temporarily in your pocket back?

But how many families are actually "nuclear" today? Over half of parents divorce. Single parents are more the norm than unusual.
We lost that standard, let alone have grandma live with you too--which was already a division of the old way--and we've divided it up even further. Women work now, they can live on their own! Wow. So of course they have to work. So of course they're not mothers, they don't have so many kids, and they get divorced more often, and break up with good guys, because it's just too damn hard for two working people to stay together, if both of them want careers.

Do your kids sleep in bunk beds? shame on you--they each need their own bedroom. Do you co-sleep with your baby? Well, it is going to DIE. Your child doesn't go to daycare, tap lessons, early childhood programming, and is learning Chinese? What kind of a parent are you?? You are ruining them with your close relationship and playing at home every day.

Thank you, consumerism. You ruined the nuclear family too. And I remember it well because I grew up during the 70s. I didn't realize until later that it was probably partly marketing bullshiat. Or mostly. You've come a long way, baby. Here's your birth control pills, NOW you can compete for more wages!
Fark, it was probably "mostly." Our whole culture is nothing but a marketing scheme. And it's our government's fault for not reining it in, like the greedy bought farks that they are.

The opioid epidemic was nothing but a marketing scheme too. The entire epidemic! There is nothing too low for these people and they have ruined us.

/and nursing homes. Who has time to take care of grandma when you have to work to afford your way-cool consumer lifestyle?

Another farker who doesn't understand how rates work.

They understand rates, just bring up that more whites are killed by cops than other races, and then all the sudden rates matter.

Our current positivity rates are almost triple that of Europe.  Historically they were worse, but that has vastly changed over the past 2 months.  They have their positivity rates per test below 2% but the US is between 5 and 15%.

The whole point was to slow the spread.  That's exactly what we did and what we are doing.  Remember, so the hospitals weren't overwhelmed, flatten the curve and all that?  We weren't going to stop it.  The US is a really, really big country and it was going to take time to spread in other regions of the US, while in the places it hit first, the numbers are going down.

....

Duh

The point was to flatten the curve and develope a system to trace and isolate any further cases so when we open back up we can control the outbreaks.

Saying we did what we set out to is like saying we did what we set out in Iraq by stopping the WMDs.

Sure we flattened the curve and now we don't have a curve, we have a giant ass spike.

Don't be naive by claiming we accomplished what set out for.  Notice how no other counties in the western world ALSO opened up and aren't seeing cases rise like ours?  It's because they flattened the curve and then opened up with robust contact tracing and isolation.

We just opened the door and said "look everythings back to normal, now spend your money so the economy can get back to shape."

We accomplished 1 part of the plan, but failed to accomplish the MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE PLAN.

Remember this?  The thing that was soo good and "stupid libs, they have an in depth plan that we have to follow."  IT WAS A GOOD farkING PLAN, BUT WE DIDN'T STICK TO IT.

Fark user imageView Full Size

Or are we just going to rewrite history like everything else where this didn't exist and the ONLY idea was to only flatten the curve and that's it?

Look. It's not coincidence that this country has more advertising spending than any other country in the world. It's not a coincidence that we have the highest consumption levels, either. We are infected with this shiat, and it has changed us.

From our political views to our view of family, we all are encouraged to adopt a brand and an identity that separates us from everybody else--the better to sell us stuff. Religion (I'm assuming you mean Christianity in particular) is just fine. The nuclear family is just fine. They've just been knocked off their pedestals as the only way to live a good and righteous life. If people who follow religion and people in nuclear families feel they're inferior merely because they can't present themselves as superior to all others, well, that's awfully unfortunate for them.

Neither our death nor case rate shows that.

USA economy good? Invest in the US.
USA economy bad? Park your money in the US for safe-keeping.

It's not America that is great. It is the money-laundering and storage. See Trump for details on how to launder your klepto-bucks and crime proceeds through the miracle of high-end condos!

If a farking shanty town in India can all but stop it, then the US should be able to.  40k cases a day is catastrophic.

As a Canadian, I am a-ok with my government keeping the southern border closed for as long as it takes for our neighbours to come to their senses. I am also not interested in international (or otherwise) travel, however it will be nice to maybe disembark and send home the hundreds of thousands of sailors stuck off-shore on ships.

1 Luxemborg 6869
2 Sweden 6700
3 Belarus 6574
4 Spain 6338
5 Iceland 5398 (note, only 341K population)
6 Belgium 5300
7 Ireland 5157
8 UK 4606 (does not include the Isle of Man, the Faeroe Islands, and Gibraltar)
10 Russia 4439

Cases per million
USA 8149
Brazil 6510

States worse than the US (skipping the tiny ones listed above) in cases per million.
Qatar 34,222
Bahrain 15,430
Chile 14,616
French Guiana 13410 (only 298K population)
Kuwait 10,818
Mayotte 9544 (only 272K)
Armenia 8620
Peru 8565

So, America is not the worst in terms of cases per million but is definitely near the top, and is absolute worst in absolute cases.

And the places that do have worse per million that you have listed are places where 85% of the population of the entire country lives in 1 city about the size of New York, also happen to be in the desert so people are inside with airconditioning basically setting up a perfect storm of density and the easiest way to spread it which is indoors with recycled air.

You might be on to something - maybe we should start acting more like Poland, Serbia, Czechia, etc. Look at their infection and death rates - astoundingly low (they are some of the ones keeping the overall European average down, BTW,). Perhaps we can become as insular and homogeneous as Japan.

They also wear masks in Japan too so you may have another good point.

Also kinda applies to Czechia because they immediately made the wearing of masks in public mandatory back in mid-March; IIRC they only lifted or eased that about two months later.

Cdr.Murdock: It's not so much an issue of the EU "respecting" the US.  It's science and numbers.

The numbers in the US are going up, so the EU will ban travel from that area.

It's not a vindictive measure.  It's not for spite, or "stiginit" to the Americans.  It's about protecting their people.

No amount of "respect" for America would change that.  Once the numbers reflect a level where the travel is advisable, it will be permitted again.

Unless someone thinks the EU is a bunch of grade school kids on the playground or something.

You're not wrong. This just highlights what a joke we are on the world stage. Especially since this President promised that the world would start to respect us again.

The sad fact is that our leadership is only a reflection of this problem, not the sole cause of it. It's who we hired for the job. But compound that with Floridians, etc., who won't adhere to basic guidelines and you have the utter disastrous failure we see before us. And the worst is on its way. xanadian: The US, Brazil and Russia have made it on a list of countries whose nationals are indefinitely banned from entering the bloc.

I see we're in good company.

When you find out those are the three countries that are the most successful in our cage fighting competitions, the reality of Europe's rationale becomes very clear.

Given what the twenty-first century has taught and provided us on the matter of the martial arts, it would be a national catastrophe if a plane was to fly into Europe from one of those countries.  The passengers proceeded to pull guard and perform heel hooks on all pedestrian traffic and the rate of leg injuries would skyrocket.

Europe knows that the average person on their streets is a three-stripe purple belt, at-best, and they have used this plague as a convenient excuse to deny the truth, which is that the United States and Brazil and Russia are for the toughest and strongest, both physically and mentally.

But this is what happens when you feminize countries with socialism, they live vicariously through the collective, and the result is that the European Union, collectively, would be helpless if they were cornered in a back alley by a grandma with an appropriately-sized walking stick.

It's no wonder that we had to bail out Europe when Europe tried to take over Europe during the World Wars.  Only a feminized socialist such as yourself would object to American/Russian/Brazilian superiority.  Goddamn feminized socialists.  Your feminized socialism makes me sick.
