Iowa, you really have to step up your scandal game if you don't want to be kicked out of the Big Ten. How committed are you to winning, really?

I don't even know how a school like Iowa recruits. "Hello, young person, would you like to move to the middle of Iowa and maybe get to play in the Outback Bowl?"

The Outback bowl isn't a maybe. I think Iowa is contractually obligated to play there every other season.

So how dumb is the coach if he wanted players to gain weight but then took away their meal card?

Who needs black football players to win?

It's just one of those schools with a ceiling.  A lot of schools are like that.  I think of South Carolina has having a ceiling.  They're never going to out-recruit their neighbors in Georgia, Clemson, or Alabama.  Purdue and Indiana have terribly low-ceilings - the teams are not really football schools, the state doesn't generate a lot of football talent, and they have to compete with ND, Michigan, and tOSU for talent.  Forget it.  It's once every 30 years that Drew Brees falls in your lap.

Well....where's the outrage that the coach needs to go?

Ames is more the middle of Iowa.  U Iowa is Eastern Iowa.  We have hills here!

I don't understand how black players managed to even get recruited to places like Iowa and Utah where there are basically no other black people there.  I guess they are stars in high school and expect that special treatment to extend to college, not thinking that racism is more powerful than that, and that they really aren't that special anyways on the college level.

To be honest, I couldn't care less how illogical the coach's rationale may have been.

If true, the mere fact a head coach can deactivate the meal card of an active student-athlete is kind of a f*cked up thing on its own.

Are you a big ol' corn-fed hogmolly who likes to push opposing linemen around?  Because Ferentz has turned a bunch of those guys into NFL-caliber players.

Burn it to the ground and rebuild it without the head coach can do no wrong BS.

The day of the tough talking no nonsense coach is coming to an end.

1 in 100 gets real results and also understands when to turn it on and off. The rest are just compensating for a lack of actual coaching skill by enforcing discipline.

I really doubt he could. Meal card might glitch for a number of reasons, head coach intereference being pretty unlikely.

Same with the therapist "disappearing", that just sounds weird.

The coach's son being an asshole? That one is pretty close to 100% likelihood.

Ferentz wouldn't get fired if he were filmed burning a cross on campus.

The Iowa fanbase is afraid they will turn into Nebraska

So, the guys that Wisconsin doesn't want.

Sidepipes: Wadley sure didn't mind putting up with it for a full-ride scholarship.  He could have spoken up at any time, but he chose to wait and trash the program that made him a success on social media.  Pretty punk move if you ask me.

For the record, you've previously been tagged as "Iowa fan." Acknowledging that Ohio State fans are world-renowned as rational creatures without an ounce of homerism among their well-behaved teeming masses, I will feel free to look down upon you football factory losers with no integrity who place winning above all else. Shame, shame on you.

I'm not going to bag a kid for keeping quiet, especially when it is supposedly the coach's son. Speaking impartially, I've absolutely no reason to believe it did or didn't happen but if it did, without audio and/or multiple witnesses (who we'll be realistic here, it would help if they were white) the player isn't winning that fight if he speaks up.

Keeping your head down and staying on scholarship is one option, as is getting ears belonging to the chain of command higher than the immediate football staff to stand before you but who knows what happens then. Is it worth a world of headaches? Should he slip some items to the media? Is transferring an option? Sure, but that would be more headaches.

Not really talking about the other issues here, but the coach's son saying some not cool racist things is a story that gets attention. If Brian Ferentz didn't do it, I feel badly for him because he is incapable of defending himself publicly against accusations which were made in public. That sucks and it isn't fair, but it is what it is.

I just finished the 1.5h podcast with James Daniels And Jordan Lomax on Washed up Walkons. Daniels made the first tweet a month ago to kick this all off.

TL;DL - yes, the culture shock of moving to Iowa where you are suddenly a minority was a big issue, especially for the freshman. The three white dudes doing the interview were teammates and oblivious. But it ends with the big question, should the head coach get fired? Not in these two players opinions. The strength coach was the issue, he's gone and they should see how this plays out before any more changes are needed. Everyone is talking now and the staff and AD are listening.

But that's two players from like 50 who spoke up.
