Cut it like they did Brazil. Make a friendly cut for the kid to watch now. Then make an honest cut for her to see when and if she wants to know the truth. Depending on what she remembers of her youth it might actually be helpful later.

That or overlay fact-checks on the dumb stuff.

No. Kids deserve to know how stupid their parents are so they don't repeat those mistakes.
Gotta break the cycle sometime.

Exactly.  The children can see clearly the decisions that mom made and the outcome that it led to.

This really depends on the age of the child.  A grown child, or close to it - give her the recordings as is.
A small child?  Then you make a video of the nice parts for now, and when she's old enough to deal with it, you give her the whole shebang.

I can't speak to your ability as a video editor.

It's not yours to edit, idiotic as it may be.

Depends on how old the kid is. If they are old enough to understand that mom was a loon, hand them the unedited stuff. If they are too young to understand I'd edit just a little of the stuff and give it too them.
Kids deserve to know what kind of people their parents are and were when they can understand it.

The mom is dead, yes it is.

My grandfather isn't even quite buried where he wants to be because of what my grandmother wanted. The living have the final say if it's not legally reinforced. And this is a case where the mom got herself killed with her beliefs and is pushing them on her impressionable child.

They don't even have to show the videos at all.

NO, it's the daughter's property, not anyone else's.

1) I Hope That Some One Gets My Message In A Bottle: One VERY important bit of precision info is missing here.  How old is the child now?  I see 4, but from context I can't tell if the child was four at the time of the custody dispute or is 4 now.  I will assume the child is still quite young so with that in mind, my basic feeling is to make copies of the raw footage to give over when the child is an adult.  In the meanwhile, I'd go ahead and make an edited version and pass it through her father with full disclosure.

2) And If I Don't Get The Things I Am After, I'm Going To Scream: Prudie with the rare DTMFA.  I agree.

3) This Land Is My Land: That's an amazing bit of entitlement you describe.  Since reason hasn't worked, you could call the sheriff.  You can also run a couple of rows of barbed wire along the top of the fence. Anyone you see needs to be told to GTFO.  Also, put a lock on your damn gate.

4) You Don't Have To Go Home But You Can't Stay Here: Yep, tell mom to GTFO.  Then stop helping financially.

5) So If You'll Kindly Pull The Curtain, Presenting Me: So clearly your husband needs proof.  Or wants proof.  Or more bluntly, a three-way with that cute friend of yours.  DTMFA.

6) This Land Is My Land II: Plausible.

7) I Want It Now II: I think we're all in agreement on DTMFA.

8) This Land Is My Land III: I knew Prudie would say something like this about law enforcement.  But the original LW said that their entitled neighbors were going to call the sheriff on them.  That bell can't be unrung so STFU, Prudie, it's valid.

9) Give Us Dirty Laundry (Classic): Ah, going back to read this reminds me that I liked the prior Prudie.  This is obviously manipulation by your ex and you know it.  I'm with old Prudie here.  Just a basic statement of truth that the child is not yours and then STFU.

Technically true, but it's not like it's unheard of to steward things kids inherit until they're adults or close to it. You do that with loads of cash so they don't piss it away. Doubly so if the thing is dangerous misinformation from someone they desperately want to believe was good.

Holding it is one thing. Manipulating it is altering someone else's property. That's what I'm saying. Hold it back, by all means, just like stewarding their money, but this would be more like saying "Well, Susie doesn't need THIS much money, so I'll burn this pile and give her the more manageable pile.".

Bears repeating.  I once knew a girl whose father had been diagnosed with autism, and while she showed several of the symptoms, for a long time she refused to believe that she herself might have autism.  Worse, whenever she mis-read someone's intentions or emotional state, she would usually assume that the other person wasn't listening to her because she's a woman.

That finally started to change when she made the mistake of yelling at me as I was making myself a cup of tea, and I snapped at her, "YOU'RE ACTING JUST LIKE YOUR DAD!"

I think the sensible solution is to edit in the "wrong answer" buzzer, followed by a Pop-up-video-esque joke about why the previous "fact" was nonsense....

It's like, "Sorry, kid, your mom's a psycho. Didn't you know?"

I don't think anybody is advocating for destroying the original copy here just holding on to that bit until the child is old enough to understand or deal with the pain it would cause them.

He has liability if some kid falls off of the castle and gets hurt. He has every reason to keep everyone off of it. I would just go ahead of demolish it.

Perhaps if anyone had bothered to seek permission first it might be different.  There is no indication anyone ever asked, just trespassed.  And even if they did ask, it remains within the owner's rights to say no and it should be respected.  That's without getting into any liability questions if someone injures themselves while playing.

No, you can't leave out the dumb parts. You must teach your niece the signs of schizophrenia and you must prepare a plan of action if either of you begin manifesting symptoms.
