I have seen this before.  The guy is gonna emerge in medieval England where he will be a folk hero due to his ability with a chainsaw and a level action shotgun.

I have friend who have on of these in their living room. They added a light in it and covered with with Plexiglas.

Came with the house. It's an old school hand dug well lined with stones. They had the water tested (in case of emergencies) and the water is still fine.

Many years ago, I briefly dated a women who worked for the state version of the EPA.  She told me a story about some poor SOB who was digging for a pool in his backyard and broke into what had been the basement of an long forgotten tannery.  The various chemicals they found buried there qualified it as a superfund site (possibly the worlds smallest).  Good news:  The fed will pay for the cleanup.  Bad news: because it only impacts one home, it is on the very bottom of the priority list so no telling when that will happen.  Fark: until it gets cleaned up, the house is unlivable. Please move out immediately.

Damn I missed it. I thought you asked "Did it come with the house or did they add one?"

My bad. I did think "Why would they add a well under the floorboards?", but this is fark after all.

There is an 80' brick lined well under a building on our town square. The town was chartered in 1883 and as I understand, the livery was located where the well was discovered. It too is covered and has a rope light descending ll the way down. When it was found (about 20 years ago) a half horse pump was dropped in and after running it for a few days  it never ran dry. Hard to imagine how it was dug and lined by hand.

People back then were just supermen. Somebody stood in there and bucket by bucket sent soil up and stones down. Then they did that standing in water. For days.... weeks.... possibly months. Amazing.

I think the same about the stone MILES of stone walls in town. (probably 1/2 mile of walls just on my property). This was a family farm and the family moved those rocks one at a time to clear a field. Day after day. Week after week. Clearing ACRES of property and creating thousands of feet of walls.

shiat, if I tried that mt wife would end up dying from trying to dig my grave.
