Malls are relics of the eighties.

Demolishing them will be a pain though.

Some of these paywalls are easier to get around than others.

This one involves hitting F12 on chrome and deleting a few elements and unchecking overflow: hidden.  It's pretty easy once you do it once or twice.

It's America in a nutshell. Colossal, ugly, obsessed with profit, rotten with debt, and dying from a virus.

Anyone in North Jersey knows about this disaster. Always was, always will be. This article would exist today even without the virus. It didn't need to exist, it gave a million reasons to never open and stood zero chance of being successful. So yeah, it's the American Dream alright.

It was going to be a disaster before the virus.

I hope Fat Christie made enough money.

The bigger looming disaster for these folks is people might find out they don't need to go waste money at the mall.

Yeah, who thought building a mall in the 21st Century was a good idea?

This thing was a Nightmare back before it ever was built. The only reason it even exists in any of its forms (American Dream, Xanadu, the world's ugliest art school grad project) is because of the amount of kickbacks and pay-to-play donations given to various NJ governors (although construction was started under McGreevey, planning started under Whitman) and politicians over the past 2 decades.

Paywalled articles have been allowed for at least a year.

While not always feasible, some have taken to converting upper stories to residential units.  This obviously benefits the commercial tenants since there's a built in clientele, but it changes the mix, too.   More recent shopping district philosophy has that built in as well, at least in California and Arizona

Not the same mall, but the Mall of America was a pretty great place for the first couple years it was open.  Comedy clubs, two arcades, restaurants everywhere, huge movie complex, bars, even the amusement park was great.

Only lasted a few years, though.

"[American Dream's] operations have been halted for a good number of months, payments were missed. Until they can get revenue flowing again, that's the negative effects of the pandemic," Kirkos said. "That's why we need to get open as soon as possible."

Here's why we have other priorities.

It does not still look like that at all.
That horrible paint job was before Mall of America bought the place.

Turn it into a homeless shelter.
