Selling a battery powered electronic device without the power block needed to recharge it?

OTOH, is anyone buying a new iPhone that doesn't already own an old one?

I have dozens of USB chargers in my house.  I never even pull out the one that comes with a new iPhone anymore.  What good is a 1 port charger?

moto is having a sale on the G6 android for $150. My old LG phone that I bought for 50 bucks 4 years ago was starting to fail.  The gyroscopes were faulty and the speaker was blown.  I caved in and bought the G6  and i'm happy with it, although I hated spending the money.  I can't imagine buying a phone for grand, although these kids can't seem to do without them.

So I have been saving up to replace my aging iPhone 6s+ --- a used 8+ (through my carrier's website) for $350, finally have the cash.

And yesterday they're out of stock, and the price has jumped to $450. No new used phone for me. Oh well, old one is still fine.

All of their used phones are out of stock.....would you people please go trade in for your $1000 phones? Have you no courtesy for the people who don't want to live in eternal debt?

The weird thing is -- if they did have any, the used 8+ is now the same price as a used X. Makes sense, they actually have the same guts. Does it really come down to one has a button & a fingerprint reader, and the other has face recognition?

/no, I don't want to switch to android. Deal with it, fanboi.

Every time I ask someone at work why they bought a $1000 phone it always boils down to some hypothetical scenarios that never happen in their own lives. Yes, yes I know you could theoretically do your job from your phone because it has great processing power, but have you ever done that?

Then their faces start to go red...that's when I ask them if they just bought it as a status symbol and the sheepish smile comes out.

I'm all for irrational decisions to enjoy your life, but it seems like such a dumb thing to get a little high on. I can see things like having a nice car being an ego booster, but having the best phone? I guess I'm an old fuddy duddy.

The old one won't be 18-20watts, so its even more shiat than the new one (the standard is more 40watts).

OK then, Apple wants to save on ewaste, so what about your old phone?

And how many Watts does your old one output? You might not charge your phone as fast as it can be charged.

I know that the only charger I can use with my P30 Pro is the included, unless I want slow charging. And the included cable unless I want to burn the house down (outputs 40 Watts).

I have a couple sets of earpods, never opened, plus at least one charger and a cable or two, also unused, if subby really needs them.  And I've only ever owned 2 iphones.

//  I also prefer a headphone jack.

1974: GODDAMMIT this phone bill is OUTRAGEOUS!! $12!!! TWELVE WHOLE DOLLARS? Who the hell called the next county over!?!?!? I can tell by the exchange! Hell, answer me or I'll call this number and find out who is on the other side of that line!!! Who called before 9PM? And what is this charge? LONG DISTANCE!?!?!?!?
I'm taking the phone out of the upstairs bathroom, I MEAN IT!!!
Tomorrow morning, all you kids are going out and getting JOBS! You need to learn the VALUE OF MONEY!!

2020: We are pregnant, and have already registered our little precious miracle in preschool in upper Manhattan. Should we get the i-Phone nn with unlimited data for their first birthday or wait until they are 18 months old. they will be teething then, and will need a hard pretzel case for it, we imagine, too. Are the ones made from recycled Chinese children reliable?

I'm gonna guess it has something to do with packing more technology into a device 1/8th the size.

A powerful, compact device that allows you to watch porno virtually anywhere is always going to cost more.

The first two options still require a charger. The third one, yeah. Chargers can also be recycled though,

Phones seem like such a poor choice for a personal luxury. Best case scenario is it has almost no value in 5-6 years. Common case is it breaks or gets lost or stolen even before that, unavoidable is worrying about those for all that time. I'm glad I upgraded to a good quality used phone a couple years ago, but I *love* not really giving a fark about taking special care of it.

Modern phones are pretty stout. I'm entering year 5 on mine, but I toss it around, let my baby chew on it (seriously, I keep it very clean and she likes to chew on it), and I've never had a screen protector. Newer devices are even more durable.

The ones they still include with iPhones are still 5W, I think.  Yes, that will charge an iPhone in a couple hours. I have a bunch of Anger Multiport chargers that do 12W per port, which will charge an iPad just fine and an iPhone PDQ.

That said, I also have a couple of Qi chargers that I use as much as anything.  I have one on my desk at work and one by my bedside.  Easy to set them down and pick up some charge.  I rarely go below 60% charge.

I also wouldn't be sad in the slightest if they stopped including Ear Pods.  I finally got on the AirPod train and it is 1,000,000x better not having any cords.

YMMV.

It's one of those things where there are tiers to luxury, and the signaling doesn't line up.

Example:

If you're poor, a flashy phone and expensive sneakers might earn you some cred.  Go up a tier and flashy phones and expensive sneakers give you away as trying too hard.  In that tier, a nice has more cachet.

Go up another tier, and a car that seems too flashy starts to look ridiculous - the classic example being the too-clean, too-polished BMW sitting outside of an apartment complex.

I would feel absolutely silly driving around in a luxury - after all, a Benz or a Jaguar sitting in front of a $400K house looks farking ridiculous.*  Like, who am I trying to fool?

At the same time, I know the things that I see as important (keeping the yard looking spectacular) would give me away to the next tier up.  Just like the lower levels, "Oh, that's cute the phone/shoes/car is your most valuable asset.  You sure are proud of it" would apply to me when someone who has considerable holdings, vacation homes, etc. looks down at me. "Ooo, way to go buddy, you're so proud of that fake center-hall neo-colonial!"

*at least here in the DMV - I know there's places where this place would go for $150-200K and not be in the hood.

Doesn't an USB port output 5W? You might not need a charger.
