No, no, no, no, no. Don't do this.

Sulfadiazine silver (a derivative of Sulfadiazine) is reported as an ingredient of Silvederma in the following countries: Hong Kong, Malta, Philippines, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia, Venezuela (source)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver_sulfadiazine
Summary: it's burn cream with silver in it. You do not want this stuff on your mouth, nose and eyes.

Harstine added, "No guarantees. There's so much research and so many people talking on both sides as to how much good a cloth mask does."

Translation: She's been told this is a bad, bad idea but she doesn't want to hear it.

The way I described one of these stories yesterday was instead of locking the barn door after horse escaped, they've installed a door. Maybe a lock will come later, maybe it won't, but horses don't have opposable thumbs, so it's all good anyway...

Masks are projected to save 300-500 lives, PER DAY! People who refuse to wear them due to reasons are mass murderers. It's literally the least you can do to protect your fellow countryman right now, so if you must go out in public, put your damn mask on.

Bad idea.

A tornado will come along and rip all the masks off everyone in town. All their ears will be sliced away by the ties, and the ears will go flying into the sky. The ear rain in the next county over will be really gross. Also, the whole town will have sit there while EMTs test to see which ears belong to who.  If they run out of time, they will have to just sew the closest ears on the closest person. The results will be so weird looking.

My elderly dad is stuck in a nursing home in Kansas.  His elderly racist wife visits him every day. She's so very afraid of the virus that she:

Good - Stays at home by herself all the time and whines about how her kids don't visit.  (Her kids never visited before.)
Bad - Visits him in the nursing home every day, and doesn't wear a mask.

Additionally,
Bad - her kids drop off groceries for her, but don't stay to visit (good.)  There are no masks/hygiene involved in the process however, so overall bad.
Bad - Her granddaughter asks this old lady to run errands in stores, as a condition for visiting/babysitting the great granddaughter.
Good - The nursing home has additional staff for cleaning, meals are served in the rooms instead of the dining room.
Bad - They allow unmasked visitors in the rooms.

There's just a lot of flaws in this safety net caused by outright selfishness.  If people won't practice safe hygiene around their own family, we can't really expect them to do so around anyone else's family.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure mask laws are not constitutional.  I've read a lot of articles (from reputable sites, not goddam OAN) that say a store requiring them is constitutional since a store is not the government (duh) but a governement mandating masks is not constitutional.

Just sayin.  I wear a mask when I'm out and so should you.

NE Kansas here. Already been wearing masks when the family and I go out. Gotta love some of the other people around here though. Have a coworker I saw at the store who shares far right stuff on Facebook walk the wrong way down the aisle on purpose and no mask on him or his son. And some of the people in my immediate vicinity are grumbling about the mask thing. Hell, last night at Boy Scouts the scout master said he just wanted everyone to just get it and get the thing over with, which has got to be one of the dumbest takes.

It was the suburbs of Kansas City that swayed the state (mainly Johnson County).

Normally they vote Republican but they've been on a Democratic streak lately. The Trump version of the Republican Party isn't swaying as well in the suburbs and Johnson County is an example of that.

Perhaps I should have said $14.88 of free advice if you get it alt-right but no. These laws predate what we have come to think of as Islamic terrorism or the alleged necessity to "prevent Sharia law" by several decades.

We have these old laws against masks on the books because of the farking Klan. Who now won't wear masks.
