Visa and MasterCard are loving this, an extra 3% on everything we buy going right to their pockets

Fark them.

Combustion: Yes, but until hookers, drug dealers and bookies take your card; many people will need cash. Like a sizeable percentage of people enjoy at least one of those. Some gamble on their drug dealer with a hooker.

A lot of sketchy stuff happens on Venmo.

The US dollar is the most traded currency in the world and the most preferred currency. It ain't going anywhere.

Can we go ahead and ditch the penny though? And no more of that 9/10ths of a cent pricing bullshiat with gasoline. Round it off to the nearest nickel and call it a day. I shouldn't have to do fractional math at the farking gas station.

I very rarely use cash to pay for things. I haven't for 30 years.
I was all in when they came out with a debit card.
I cancelled my credit cards ( a smallish mistake) and never looked back.  I still carry  some cash on me and a couple of Bennies in the wallet just in case.

In everyday life a debit card works great. For larger purchases, it can be a problem.
Try buying a new truck with a debit card and watch them freek out.
That was comical, and a pain in the arse all at the same time.

Hookers and drug dealers use swipe. I'm serious. I don't know about bookies because gambling is legal near me.

I wouldnt be surprised if the hobo outside my subway stop starts asking for money via swipe on his smartphone.

Yeah, but many people don't want anyone seeing where they went and how they spent their money. Think shady people.

There are ways to cover your tracks digitally, that goes for any business legal or not.

Yeah, but try hiding that from...your wife!! That's what I'm talking about. Dude from American Beauty who never gets any from his wife, and wants to go visit a lady. Or people that don't want their cocaine bill on their Visa statement.
Yes, yes, I'm sure some super hacker can be anonymous, but I'm talking Average Joe Six Pack that has to write down all their passwords at work, and they're all just "password@1".

Your government allows them to do it and locate in states where they can charge loanshark interest rates. I realize they need to make money, but if there was ever a monopoly that needed reigned in, it is the credit card companies

Here in British Columbia I can do at least two of those without cash. Legal weed and legal gambling.

Haven't had bills or change on me regularly for a couple years now, even have online exchange options for small crap like paying my chunk of what used to be the office coffee fund.  In fact the only time I tend to carry currency is when I'm in some developing country like Cuba, Dominican Republic or the US.

Yeah, but hookers are not in business right now because of social distancing rules guidelines. It isn't easy to do the needful from 2 meters away.

/though, surprisingly, not as hard as one might think
//huh huh huh huh huh, "hard"
