Eh its not that deadly.

RedVentrue: The other alternative is to let it run it's course and burn itself out.

Since there is much doubt on exactly how much immunity recovered cases have, and whether mild cases have enough to avoid reinfection, this may not be possible.

no the sky.

its falling, you know.

i'm just wondering how many of all those trillions of new covid cases recovered like they would with any flu??

the news actors never mention that.  all they talk about is the trillions of new cases because that gets them the clicks and eyeballs they like which makes them more money.

Actually, there are a number of other alternatives. It's just that most of them, like that one, are insectly, hyrdroencephalically stupid.

Animatronik: overthinker: Seeing news claim a new strain is more infectious:
https://www.usnews.com/news/health-news/articles/2020-05-06/new-coronavirus-strain-more-contagious-scientists-say

And some saying its stronger, too:
https://nypost.com/2020/05/05/study-shows-new-coronavirus-mutation-appears-more-contagious/

So, my take is this:
If you want to go maskless, socialize, party, etc., go right ahead. But you do NOT have the right to expect ANYONE ELSE to work or go out of our way to serve you. In fact, every business is private property and we are now seeing signs saying :No Shoes, No Shirt, No Pants, No Mask = No Service. The grocery store in the tiny town I live in has a cop enforcing it, too. Simply put, do what you want, but you are NOT entitled to anyone doing anything for you, and you should expect to be kept away from the rest of us.

People who catch and spread the virus are a threat to everyone, regardless of how they caught it. Private parties are a great concern right now.

Everyone please, just for a few weeks forget all the other nonsense in your daily lives, wear a mask and avoid social contacts in public.

common sense and prudence.

all that is needed to ward of the virus for most people.

can't stop it.  viruses were here on earth long before mankind showed up.

and viruses mutate all the time.  duh.  our immune systems have been dealing with this shiat since day one.

in 2018, over 900,000 were hospitalized in the US with the common flu.  over 80,000 died.

it has to run its course, and no, it'll never disappear.  just like flu viruses don't disappear.

BizarreMan: I'm still very concerned about the numbers coming out of India, Mexico, Brazil.  High population countries with extreme variations between standard of living and medical care.

I would not be surprised if their numbers exceed the US numbers if we could get accurate numbers.

Rio is going to get really scary the more downhill it goes. If the favelas start rioting there is not a lot of room for that to happen

"Every politician needs to look in the mirror and say, 'Am I doing enough to stop this virus?'" the executive director of WHO's Health Emergencies Program said.

Oh, that's going to be a good twitterschitt. Might even get some on the walls!
Can't wait when Donny asks how we can bomb the WHO...

50th: We deserve every bit of this.

No. Some of us deserve this, and more.
Others of us have done our share and more, continue to do so, want no part of it, and don't deserve it.

You can't lump sum us the rabid, idiotic assholes who won't comply anymore because they are a minority, and will never share rational values. There is no such thing as "we" or "us" anymore.

I can't understand letting someone/something have that much control over your life. My ex-SIL has always been a big believer. Her church is telling them to vote for Trump because he's the antichrist and they want to bring about the end of times more quickly.

Sorry, I'd be calling the IRS: IT IS ILLEGAL FOR A CHURCH, IF THEY CLAIM TAX EXEMPTIONS, TO MAKE POLITICAL STATEMENTS FROM THE PULPIT. iT IS ILLEGAL.

some_beer_drinker: it's 2020, can't we out science this biatch yet?

There's plenty of science in the pipeline. Vaccines, synthetic antibodies, improved treatment protocols, etc. People who get the disease today have a better chance of surviving it than those who caught it in March (assuming the hospitals aren't over 100% capacity). There's also the basic science of observing the way it is transmitted and updating the public health guidance in response, e.g. more focus on wearing masks and avoiding indoor environments, less focus on hand washing and bleaching your groceries.

Unfortunately, science takes time and some people (SOME people, he says while glaring southward at a certain international border) refuse to follow any of the short-term mitigation steps to delay the pandemic until the other stuff is ready.

Rub it in, why don't you? Trust me, most of us here in the States know we're farked.

I'd move my family to Canada if I could be sure of affording it. We'd happily quarantine for 2+ weeks and wear hazmat suits if that's what it took.

Under lottery-level optimal conditions, vaccine ready for distribution in a year.

More likely 2-3 years away.  Or perhaps never.

I don't think the U.S is a nation of idiots.  I have friends and even a few relatives there.  It's your incessant tendency to politicize everything that comes off the most idiotic to outside observers, even though we realize your extreme individualism and federal system are unique.

Right now, the internal debate you have raging seems to be about personal freedoms.  But even if an effective vaccine becomes widely available in a best case scenario, won't your debate then turn to a raging political war over:
a) fair distribution
b) trustworthiness of vaccine
c)  personal character traits as related to your opinion of the vaccine
d)  skepticism of vaccine because there was never a real problem anyway
e)  deep regional flaws and disturbing political affiliations that have come about because of a medical remedy being present
f)  the unlikeable screen presence of any medical official endorsing the vaccine, and their potential for scandal
g)  the relation of the vaccine to Obama

And on and on.  It's like you guys are allergic to harmony.  You have to be fighting someone.
