Maybe this is the real reason pork is prohibited in ancient religions.

They are omnivores.  Which means they typically carry a number of nasty parasites.  Some priests figured out a long time ago that eating such beasties was a bad idea...

Elegy: lolmao500: Yup. Most diseases come from animals... which comes from humans close to animals... which happens in poor countries.

China is doing this, Mexico is doing this... most of the world is doing this. Until we fix this shiat worldwide, we'll always have pandemics and new diseases.

If we werent stupid humans, instead of wasting money on the military, we would invest our ressources into modernizing poor countries so people wouldnt live in shiathole conditions so this kind of crap wouldnt happen... the only ones living near animals would be those who ''grow'' them... the chances of diseases jumping species would go down by a billion fold.

TBF you're right and it's a huge farking problem worldwide. To be equally fair China is authoritarian enough to do it immediately if they wanted to.

The wet markets are indeed goddamned iffy but are not, in truth, the real problem. Which is the 'farming' of wild animals to get to the wet markets in the first place. And yes. The PRC government could make it happen ... at the cost of the starvation of a significant fraction of their population. The 22nd-century cities on the coast are not China.

This is China:

And given their experiences with government-imposed famines during the Cultural Revolution I don't see that happening anytime soon.

you guys seem to be onboard with trump's more test's mean more disease logic.

covid raised the funding / research into emergent animal disease so scientist are working hard to identify what's out there in the wilds naming it and researching it. most of the thing that are going to come out of this is alot of new disease that nobody ever heard of that are not actually spreading to human or that's got a very low R0.

and well china is working on finding those atm because they have the staff available since they already got rid of most of their covid and not all experts are in the vaccine making part of the field.

[Fark user image 425x351]

That's farking why. Shopping in a slaughter house is more common than shopping in a supermarket in some places. When half the city tromps through the slaughterhouse to make their purchases, you get a lot of novel viral mutations that cross the species barrier.

China has been told to clean up their wet markets for farking decades. Increasing urbanization is only going to make it worse, and it's pretty farking evident the area this point the wet markets are a global threat.

Yup. Most diseases come from animals... which comes from humans close to animals... which happens in poor countries.

China is doing offshoring this to the US, Mexico is doing this... most of the world is doing this. Until we fix this shiat worldwide, we'll always have pandemics and new diseases.

If we werent stupid humans, instead of wasting money on the military, we would invest our ressources into modernizing poor countries so people wouldnt live in shiathole conditions so this kind of crap wouldnt happen... the only ones living near animals would be those who ''grow'' them...and process them (and we've seen how that turns out)... the chances of diseases jumping species would go down by a billion fold.

rcain: lolmao500: rcain: Simple solution: we nuke the shiat out of China

They refuse to keep their shiat under control. They insist on cultivating one deadly pathogen after the next in their livestock markets. They fark around, lie, coverup and get people killed all over the world

It's time America steps the fark up and does what America does best
Bomb the shiat out of something

The only good commie is a dead commie. Thats a fact.

This has nothing to do with political ideology, you insipid twit

This is straight up willful ignorance and refusal to buckle under, and endure the pain and expense of doing what is right

Fact is, if this was happening in America right now Trump would Fire the heads of the FDA and replace them with idiot lackeys just to appease the factory meat farmers

China is simply refusing to abolish their antiquated live stock markets and move to modern, sanitary means of procuring livestock in a marketplace setting and as long as they insist on keeping their tradition then the rest of the world will pay the price

And if people would stop traveling there and bringing it back to the poors in their countries we'd all be protected from this stuff. But no, the rich gotta play jet setters.
So let's ban all the travelers from coming back.
I'm sick of it all

I've written multiple insulting introductions here now and deleted them all, I'll just say that I can't believe this comment. During the Great Chinese Famine 15-45 million people died of starvation, please tell me when the United States has ever let that many of its citizens starve. Go ahead, I'll farking wait. While I'm waiting, maybe you can also realize that capitalism per Pew Research has lifted millions out of poverty, "From 2001 to 2011, nearly 700 million people globally moved out of poverty, meaning $2 a day or less." I don't care if that's capitalism or capitalism mixed with socialism, it sure as hell ain't communism.

/Not even in the worst Dickensian hell hole could they come up with those kind of starvation numbers.

Sure, I'm being hyperbolic.

But, I'm 46.
I read.
I digest all kinds of information.
It's clear go me, after 20 years of information absorption, our differences are superficial and made to maintain things worked for over decades.
Sure, hindsight is 2020.
But, that is all I got. I can't tell the future. But,
After analyzing the outcomes of wars and the current state of countries around the world, it's clear it's all smoke and mirrors. People are people. The world over. The people in power like for us to see enemies in every shadow.
If this wasn't the case, Enterprise would not be conducted with people we think are evil.

Mrs LC (Chinese) informs me that since the Chinese consumers prefer the cost saving of buying at wet markets they will not be replaced or cleaned up. The way she bargain hunts, I believe her.

No. That is not the problem. The population density isn't high enough. Peasants don't travel.

The problem is that the people in your photograph move to these huge urban cities you or I will never see, but they keep their provincial attitudes about sanitation. China doesn't enforce modern health standards. Or at least not well.

Those maps I posted are the wet markets in Najing, a single, extremely modern city:
Fark user imageView Full Size

They aren't provinces, those are the wet markets in a single, modern Chinese city.

China is cramming millions of people into modern high density urban environments, and enforcing the health regulations of a medieval European city. It probably ends in tears. They could clean up the wet markets without endangering the food supply.

We sort of are, in a very roundabout and exploitative way, by moving manufacture to the currently cheapest location. Japan made cheap crap for the world in the 70s and 80s, China is doing it now, and India may be next.

Yep, pork is just fine as long as it is cooked thoroughly.  Just banning is a lot easier than getting everybody to stop doing a quick half assed cooking over an open flame.  It's the same with shellfish. They couldn't just issue a warning about red tide or not digging near sewage outlets.
