When I attended Catholic School, we had a home-room hour before classes.
Attendance was taken, announcements made, etc.
Every Monday, we were made to stand and out ourselves if our parents hadn't been at Sunday Mass.

Years later, a g/f with kids in the same school told me the school now tacked on service hours for missing church. I was ready to be indignant for her but, turns out, her husband figured out a way to serve those hours working the beer tent at the annual carnival.

It's a bit hazy now but I think my husband thanked hers for "sleeping in on Sundays ifunowhatimean AND getting beered for it"

You know, I used to be like that, but I figure: these people are doing it to themselves. They know better, and choose to go get fleeced. IOW: Fark 'em.
I personally hope these slimy preacher types take EVERY DOLLAR from these rubes. Take them for everything. They want him to.

I agree. I used to feel as if I had to 'educate' them on the 'religious moneytraps' (as I called them). But after a while I developed an attitude of 'If you want to give your money to a preacher so he can gas up his Mercedes, that's on you'

I've lived in this state for 28 years and until now I didn't even know there was a Sugartown, Louisiana.

I'll just assume the entire town consists of this church, and possibly a Dollar General, and that there is no need to educate myself further.

From a brief look at Google it doesn't even have a Dollar General. But it does have a "Watermelon stand"

And it has a Baptist church and a Pentecostal church.

Wow...i don't think that would have gone done in my parish. We went to church but that kind of retribution would drive people away faster than anything.  Like anyone would call out their parents in the school they were working 2 jobs to pay tuition.  fark all. I would have rebeled against the shiat and left the church sooner than I did.

The USA invented televangelism.

So why do they keep saying that churches make their money from collection plates? That is the lowest income for churches, and Americans know it.

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

But you know that's Jesus Christ. Why would any Christian listen to him?
