Aetre: The cynic in me: the SEC was probably singlehandedly responsible for Mississippi changing the flag. Once football got threatened... Oh, shots were considered fired.

Also the cynic in me: so all it took for change to happen was for a whole lotta money to get involved. Go figure!

Okay, at first I thought "Securities and Exchange Commission" and I was really confused.....

Metallic wood boring beetle/jewel beetle. Family is Buprestiade. Not sure about species.

I was thinking aurulenta.

So is dally bug person too?

Naw...just an armchair taxonomist, among many other armchair avocations.  I like putting things in categories; makes me feel like I have some control over this vast and uncontrollable universe.

I had a friend who studied entomology and would have been able to tell me all about this little gem had he not died, too soon.  He was the very first friend I ever made in this world, when we were nine months old.  His is the family that moved to Maryland and missed Taco Bell so much they took a case of taco sauce back with them when they visited!

Here is his book, Six Legs and a Buzz, a collection of his writings and photos.  I recommend it.

Hi folks, lots to scroll. I saw Schultz! So I saw somethink, somethink!

I sure hope the VoteVets folks can get their ad on Fox News. That's some brutal honesty that the MAGAts need to hear. No way it'll get shown on OANN though. Who has that on their cable package anyway? I'm betting the Derpistan that surrounds my city has it on their bizarro cable services.

Anyway going to game while listening/watching Rachel.

This little guy is one reason why dead insects, feathers, and skins are difficult to curate. He's a dermestid beetle and he eats dead animal bits. He's a beetle, and found pretty much everywhere. These guys are a pain if you are trying to maintain a natural history collection.

I wish we had a collection of redhats who all went into a coma shortly before the election, and once a week or so, one of them would wake up so we could explain how the last 3.5 years have gone since Hillary took office and document their reactions.

And then we'd get an awesome montage of them all having heart attacks after we said, "Just kidding, Trump won.  All the rest of that stuff happened, though." We'd set it to Another One Bites the Dust.

The larvae do the damage. I think the adults are kinda cool because of the colored scales. The larvae have "urticating hairs" that irritate your skin if touched. They look adorably fuzzy, for a beetle larva I mean.

Back in the late 1970s / early 1980s, I was in a serious relationship w/ a guy. There ended up being a third woman for a short bit. We all three went separate ways, but years later, he and she got together again and are married. We're all on friendly terms.

I mention this because when I hear Susan Rice talk, she sounds so much like my friend's wife, it's uncanny.

Hey ya'll. Been lying in bed trying to doze off and haven't slept a bit. Too tired to sleep. Gonna be a 12 hour crash soon. I usually read to help that but I'm trying to get all my.phone batteries charged up.

And I'm having mixed feelings about what the vet said today. She basically thinks there's nothing wrong with Larry, he's simply still adjusting to becoming an outdoor cat after nearly two months.

I don't know. I need to get some sleep.
