he's clearly lost interest in being President. I don't think he'll formally resign or decide not to run; I think he'll just stop getting out of bed. is there a constitutional remedy for that?

Sec 4 of the 25th Amendment, but if Pence had a spine that would have happened 2 years ago

Well then I guess he doesn't have "total authority".

He would never use a 9mm.

He'd want the bigliest, bestliest, most luxuriousest shot ever.

500 Magnum... if he could get his tiny hands around it.

Dont need a conviction for asset forfeiture/seizure.  At least that is what has been argued.

But not for anything he's already been impeached for. If he is pardoned there's going to be a hell of a fight about it.

He hates being president?  Huh, that's funny, because I hate him being president.

I think he's more dangerous to the GOP if he resigned. They at least have some control to occasionally shake keys in front of his face to be entertained. If he resigns he spends 24/7 interviewing on Fox News/OAN/Breitbart and now they have no control over what he says. His base would still listen to him so if he attacks some GOP it would cause them to lose votes.

Any real punishment for his crimes will take a few years to move through all the courts

If the guy with a gun about to shoot the president is the president, are they still supposed to shoot to kill to stop him?

You'll never get a narcissistic to admit they're wrong. Even if it made them look fat.

I don't think that a blanket pardon like the one Ford did is truly legal, but ultimately it's up to whatever "reality" politicians and judges decide to create.

He's going to flee to Florida. As far as Junior and Kushner know and have told him, Florida doesn't have an extradition treaty with New York...

And in the ridiculously unlikely possibility of that happening, the State of NY will hopefully be all over his ass.

You know what would be the most fun scenario?

Trump goes to the Republican National Convention and proceeds to decline the nomination and declaring it an open convention - with anyone capable of being nominated from the floor.

Pence would probably be the nominee, but to witness that level of chaos, deliberately instilled and no matter how short lived, would be nothing short of glorious.

If he were to resign, Pence can pardon federal crimes but I believe he can't pardon state crimes...... The state of New York would be first to drag Trump's fat ass to court....

Door's right over there. You could be in New York in no time flat, and you wouldn't have a bedtime, and no one would wake you up every morning to listen to boring stuff. You know, up until New York decides to press charges, and a new Administration wonders about all that treason and sedition. Which means, maybe you should take Vlad up on that dacha.

Maybe guys who are deeply into money laundering for Russian mobsters and oligarchs shouldn't go into the most scrutinized office in the entire world? Just a thought.

The 25th Amendment. .. .but that has to be invoked.

That's fine.
Trump is a proven and reliable serial offender. He will reoffend. There's no pardoning crimes that have yet to be committed.

If (and I know this is a BIG if) the Senate flips, they'll be in session a couple of weeks before inauguration day.

If Trump tries to resign on his last day, the Senate could go full Peru and not accept his resignation...

skyotter: The moment he resigns, Pence is pardoning him.

He'll spend the rest of his life paying legal bills and defending himself in State Court even if all the federal charges are dismissed. His base will send a few bucks here and there in the beginning but they'll lose interest very quickly when the next a****** steps up and says I'll be your next president I need your money. Then he will flop around like a big fat carp out of water and do the book circuit and the talk show circuit to try to scrape together a few more bucks. Hopefully this won't last long. I usually don't wish death on people but I make an exception for him. He's the biggest piece of s*** I've ever heard of in my life.

Well, let's see.  He will not resign because that would be akin to admitting failure or that he somehow made the wrong decision.  He hates the job but loves the adulation he gets from his supporters.  Since he views losing as a character flaw, he will do his best to make sure he doesn't.  Try all he wants, the majority of people in this country do not share his opinions or approve of what he has done to "make America great again."  He is in a horrible position, and not even the 25th would allow him to save face, even in his own opinion.
