MerelyFoolish: The first amendment is dead.  What happened to disagreeing with what someone says, but appreciating their right to say it?

Did she say anything more offensive than "fark cops"?  Or "cops are murderers"?  Or "white people - if you're not with us (the demonstrators) you are murderers"?  People are walking the streets of our major cities chanting these things every day.

People need to understand two things:

1.  Most "racists" don't dislike others due to their color, but due to their culture - and they usually misunderstand that, as well.  True racists are really ignorant people who have very little influence on the world beyond the doors of their rented mobile homes.  At the same time, we must understand that discussing crime statistics is not racism.  To point out the dozens of shootings that occur in Chicago alone each weekend is not racism.  To point out that more unarmed white people are killed by police each year is not racism.  To point out that 90% of interracial crimes involving black and white people are black on white and only 10% white on black is not racism.  It may simply be people saying "We have a unique opportunity here.  Let's examine the whole truth that may lead us to a solution."

2.  People are sick of the hypocrisy of and lies.  When a demonstrator grabs a megaphone and screams "All cops are farking murdering bastards", they lose me immediately.  I totally discount their march, their movement, their pain, their frustration, and their struggle.  When I watched hundreds of teenagers looting stores, only to have some minister complain about the outside agitators who came into town to loot and destroy, it has the same effect on me.  When people ignore the real numbers behind crime and police brutality to support their arguments, I can't take them seriously.

Right? How dare people expect the cops to not kill them, if other members of the public will kill them.

More like who gives a fark if she has a point.  Why did she get kicked outta school for this?  Lol

Because she was stupid enough to wear a shirt with the university's name on it while making that video for starters...

That seems like a dumb reason to censor someone.  Maybe they should make you sign an agreement before selling the shirt.  That way only true believers get to exercise their first amendment rights while wearing the shirt.

It's a private university.  If she was expelled, I'm sure they have explicit rules that she violated.  If she left voluntarily, you have even less ground to stand on.

If she left voluntarily then that's on her.  Otherwise I don't think private institutions should be able to take away you first amendment rights outside of the institution... If you disagree with me that's fine.  I'm guessing you also supported the NFL over the whole kneeling thing right?

Nobody took her rights away. She's fully free to post on tiktok all she likes...just not while being affiliated with that school. Freedom of speech doesn't include freedom from consequences.

So this woman is paying money to go to the university and is then told to only say things the school seems appropriate even when outside of class or risk expulsion.  How does she have freedom of speech? How did you feel about the NFL btw?

I feel that the NFL should probably get those goalposts back from you.

She knew the rules, she violated them.  What part of that statement isn't sinking in.  It still applies even if she didn't bother to read said rules.

To use your level of obtusely ignoring reality, that's like saying "I didn't know it was illegal to stab someone.  Why am I being punished?"

Sorry man, I don't think any private organization should be able to control you at home.  If you don't agree with me it's cool but that doesn't mean I'm being obtuse, it just means we don't agree.

I suggest you make a racist video, wearing all the swag you have frommwork, and make it obvious you work for them.

Let's see just how quickly you discover that you are also working under a code f conduct that you didn't know about.

You are generally free to do what you want.  But if you make your employer, or your educator look bad, they have the rght to not associate with *you*.  And that means termination.

That is what you are not getting.  The school is the injured party, not her.

Farking Codes of Conduct...

Did she do it during class?  Why should the school be able to control someone outside of class?  It's a simple question that no one has provided a good answer for.  If you just disagree that's fine, we don't have to agree...

Usually there is something embedded in these that basically says that you represent the university (or company for that matter) even outside of class. By wearing the shirt, she was "representing" the university whether she realized that or not.

Just because Fox News doesn't report on these doesn't mean they don't happen.

When CNN, MSNBC, ABC, BBC, Wash Post, LA Time, and other major liberal media start presenting this as the issue that is responsible for a majority of black deaths, then maybe your point makes sense.

One hand pull in a nascar garage gets 120 hours of coverage, but one 3 year old black son shot dead in violence gets 30 minutes.

Time for heads to be removed from assholes, and get woke to reality.

So your premise is that news coverage is making people protest?
So why isn't news coverage making people wear mask? Wear condoms? Not default on their mortgage?
Why doesn't the over-reporting of police killings get cops to kill less?

I would argue that after hours and off campus you should be able to say anything you like.  Reality is of course different than this as many people have pointed out.  We also don't even know why she's not enrolled anymore so there really wasn't anything to argue about in the first place.

Actually, maybe that is a stupid premise.

I'm Hispanic and have lived in the hood all my life. So according to some people I should fear the gang members in my neighborhood. So why do I fear the police more? Because I know how to avoid gang members. There is no avoiding the police. I've had cops do break neck uTurns to check me out. And I wasn't doing anything. And the thing is, if I'd had a gun I would have shot and killed that cop. Because I have no idea why he did that extremely fast aggressive U turn. Hell to be honest I'd probably shoot anyone doing a u-turn on me like that not just a cop. But, if a criminal did a u-turn on me like that I'd know why and I would have already avoided something like that happening in the first place like driving a Cadillac at 3 in the morning in the hood.  Or having upset him in the past.
See a dirty little secret no one talks about is, a lot of murder in the hood is street justice or over a girl or over family. So, since that is the case, people don't worry about it. It's just life. being killed by the cops for almost no reason while unarmed should not be a part of life.

Or you could address the problem and do something about it (that's what anybody who actually cares about black people would do)

It's discussed ad nauseum outside of racist echo chambers. There's also the issue that most crimes are committed by family and close friends, which upsets the gun-loving types. Lastly, this subject tends to be brought up regularly by racists trying to deflect from someone who clearly said something racist.

Oh ok.  I guess I missed the national news stories and public protests about it.

You guys can deflect or deny all you want.   The simple fact is black people killing other black people is a huge problem, far worse than cops killing blacks.

Murder is far more frequent amongst blacks percentage wise than in any other race or than interracial homicides.

Any time somebody points this fact out, that person's statement should be promoted....not silenced.  (Even if they don't have good intentions with the statement)

Somebody has to get serious about blacks killing other blacks and call attention to it.

So let me guess, you're in favor of greater government spending on urban education and infrastructure, expanding Medicaid, perhaps a federal subsidy for home purchases in low income areas, raising the minimum wage, and all of the other things that could help reduce crime and poverty?

That would be a start.

Unfortunately it doesn't cure one of the bigger issues.. hereditary racism.  Educating that out of people will take a long time.

Or just make Racism illegal?

Smells pretty bad up there huh, see some peanuts or a gerbil?  If you can hear, you could be neck deep in that wcho xhamber of yours?

Yes, police involved shooting and other negative police stories are dramatically over-reported based on the actual percentage of violence they represent in this circumstance, if news were prorated based on violence then less than 1% of a day would be a bad cop story and 23.6 hours would be drugs, gang, poverty, crime, and murder.

gar1013: Somacandra: Somehow I have a feeling that the white student who made the racist video has never paid attention to African-American media or any activism concerning street crime in majority black neighborhoods. Because there's historically been a lot of anti-crime and anti-violence activism, especially through local churches and mosques. And now gets to wonder why whitesplaining shiat she knows nothing about gets her in trouble.

Ever notice how the mainstream media doesn't cover any of that?

It's because in most of the newsrooms, they are probably reacting exactly how she depicted. They don't care. It doesn't get ratings.

Remember how people have noticed that a missing white woman gets a lot of attention, while a missing African-American barely gets mentioned?

Same news media.

The very same news media that is falling all over themselves to inflame passions.

It's farking rich how the media and entertainment industry is so supportive of BLM despite being in the best possible position to do things to help portray African-American communities in a positive light, to help save lives, and to make it so that images of African-American men on the news occur in segments other than ones that reinforce stereotypes.

The media and entertainment industries have made good money off of the suffering of the Black community.  Their response? Pulling a couple of episodes of sitcoms that might be considered offensive and try to shoehorn some non-white actors into plots that aren't written for them, about them, or by them.

Is the girl an idiot? Sure, but she's an idiot who made a video less than a minute long.  How many years worth of footage has the media industry produced in this decade alone that says the same thing, but in a far more dangerous manner?

Welcome to America. Everything is about money money baller baller bling bling.
Not sure why that means, BLM, doesn't have a valid grievance.

Please go read the first amendment and tell me how it applies to the response of a private university. It's not dead, it doesn't apply here.

Right-hand-side is the face she makes as she's complaining about how those people are allowed to use the N-word all they want but she can't.

To say that it's okay for black people to say certain words but not okay for white people is racist.  Unbiased and non-racist people know this.  Either it's wrong for all or it's okay for all, but don't say you're not racist if you believe in this double standard.

What?

I can call my girl friend Babe.
I can't call my boss Babe.
This isn't complicated.
You're so disingenuous.

Wrong.  I was specifically referring to saying something is wrong to say because of your race.  Your example has nothing do with race but with relationships.  If you said that black people can't say "babe" but white people can, then that would be racist.

No one cares.

People are regularly fired for things they do off clock.
I don't agree with it.
But this girl isn't the Rosa Parks of unfair dismissal.   Test cases are hand picked.

Man there sure are some vocal snowflakes who are just sooooo mad that a private Baptist university would kick someone out for violating a code of conduct that she'd agreed to when she was accepted. And there are the snowflakes who are soooooo mad that they just can't say some words without people thinking them racist jackasses. You have the ability to say them, but there might be some societal pressures that indicate that just isn't done in polite company, since some folks went and ruined it with all that systemic discrimination, violence, and those pesky lynchings.

I suppose this is a safer space for them than going out and just and shouting some things at random black folks to see what the reaction would be. While you're at it, maybe you should try some random epithets for the Irish in Boston, or maybe go to certain neighborhoods in New York to bandy about your favorite terms for Italians or maybe some Jews, and see how far that gets you, you know to prove your point about the reverse racism. It would totes be worth the broken jaw and cracked ribs, right? THAT would show those Libs!

Or you can natter on here, and keep trying to polish the argument that you're TOTALLY going to use next time you meet a random Lib in the street or at a Town Council meeting.

Y'all motherf*ckers got some very weird fantasy fixations. Just saying. Some people dream about impressing the ladies by being schmoove and witty. Have any of y'all thought about maybe going to see someone about these anger issues? Just a thought. No pressure. But this ain't normal is all we're saying...

Chuck87: Btw, it's not racist because she said the reactions were from "People", not reactions from black people or any other race.

If u ask me she was making fun of white people and I think that's what really got her kicked out
she threw shade

Cue that no one asked me

Steakzilla: Al!: Steakzilla: I understand the point you make.  But what's the difference between limiting someone's free speech and limiting someone's freedom when they join a cult?  Would you really support Scientology holding people against their will if they wanted to leave?  Why is one right ok to sign away and the other not?

Wait.  Is she a (former) Scientologist being held against her will?  Or is the university holding her against her will by booting her?  Or is she a Scientologist holding others against their will?  I'm confused.  Kidnapping is a crime, and no part of our constitution should ever be misconstrued as granting a private citizen the right to infringe upon the rights of another private citizen.  No rights were infringed upon as far as I can tell with the matter at hand... she made a video that the university didn't like, and in order to keep their private club they way they like it, they kicked her out.  That's all, and none of that is infringing on any rights.  I'm not sure where Scientology comes in to the conversation.

It was a thought exercise to see how many rights he thought it was legally ok to sign away when you are part of a private organization...

As far as I can tell legal contracts do allow you to sign away an awful lot I don't agree with it but it seems to be the case

But you are acting like this hasn't been the case for at least the last 30 years

Forgive me for being uninterested in testing this.  Also, understand the difference between reality and what I wish reality was.

And I wish drugs and prostitution or legal

She's awful and all that, but did you see her wrists?  She could give a world class fisting.  It's not all downhill after she gets the thumb in.  You're in for a wild ride until she gets to the elbow.

Isn't the school free to drop for like almost any reason, except illegal ones like sexism?

I would argue that after hours and off campus you should be able to say anything you like.  Reality is of course different than this as many people have pointed out.  We also don't even know why she's not enrolled anymore so there really wasn't anything to argue about in the first place.

I agree. But, meh. The NFL black listed a player.
Apparently our bosses are our slave masters.

BeotchPudding: Mrtraveler01: Kit Fister: BeotchPudding: No outrage in the media over these actions.

FTFY. I guarantee you that if you asked the people in the community there, there'd be plenty.

They're poor minorities in "bad neighborhoods". Therefore, no one listens because they don't give a shiat for exactly the unspoken attitude you demonstrated.

They do report on it in the local media. I know because I live near St. Louis.

The Fox News watching crowd just refuses to recognize it because it gives them an excuse for them to hand wave cases like Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd.

Show me where on MSNBC, CNN actually reports on these....

Why the fark would a national news channel report on the local crime beat in Chicago? Oh yeah, that's right! It's because these stories feed in to the Fox News narrative that black people are animals and Obama's hometown is a hellscape.  And before you say shiat, BeotchPudding (love the name, by the way) If you can ALSO bring up even an equal number of white on white crime stories from anywhere in the country - and they totally farking exist - then maybe these aren't politically motivated. I am confident you can't. Fox news is racist as fark and your example proves it.

Where are the conservatives arguing that her first amendment rights were violated?

waxbeans: GrizzlyPouch: GrogSmash:

That doesn't mean it isn't just as important or just as outrage worthy.  And please don't pretend black on black violence generates the same amt of outrage as a cop shooting, it doesn't.

Should it?
Two private citizens get into some kind of drama, one dies.

The police kill an unarmed suspect, already in their custody.

those two things are so different I'm not sure why you're bringing one up while talking about the other.

I'm pretty sure I know why one brings up random crime in response to people talking about police killings. It of course involves missing the point, probably intentionally.

Screaming Candle: Where are the conservatives arguing that her first amendment rights were violated?

I think many conservatives would believe that her rights weren't violated since this was a private university.  If it was a public university, then yes, I think they would say that.

BeotchPudding: MerelyFoolish: The first amendment is dead.

Democrats & Liberals believe in 'Freedom of Speech'...as long as it doesn't disagree with them.

Maybe you should go take that constituting class with Donnie since neither of you understand it. Please tell me where in the 1st amendment, any private company or citizen has to agree or appreciate or support any bullshiat you decide to spout out?
