Why don't they take out a small 50 million dollar loan from their parents or buy more money?

2020-06-29 10:45:57 PM
Just sell some stocks or dip into the trust fund your parents established for you. You libs want a hand-out for everything.

It's the economy, stupid.

All they need to is move to a less expensive area where the skills they have will allow them to buy a Ford F150 and put 20% down on a double-wide.

This is not difficult, people.

Yeah, this sucks really bad.  I have money saved up right now but I have NO prospects of work for the foreseeable future, so I have no idea how long that money is going to last me.  And most of the jobs that are available to someone like me are ones that put people at significant risk of contracting the disease, and that's utterly inhumane.

Making people choose between their home and their health is evil.  Literally evil.

2020-06-29 10:53:38 PM
If you think the economy is bad now, you ain't seen nothing yet.  With McConnell saying no more cash stimulus coming anytime soon, people are going to be hard pressed to make their bills and put food on the table.  When no one has the money to buy goods and services, those providers of goods and services go out of business.  When they go out of business, the jobs they provide go away causing people to not have money to make their bills and put food on the table.  Rinse and repeat.

It is going to be an ugly third and fourth quarters.

You make an unintentional point. There won't be any problems when the police show up to evict all these people from their homes, right? There have been no major drama points with American police in the immediate past, right?

The 2 trillion dollar stimulus package was enough to give every man, woman, and child in America $6000. The average family of 3 would receive 18,000 dollars from the government, and could have been tax free. That would have bought most of America a lot of time.

Almost 900 billion of that package went to large and small corporations.

Just as the Lord would have intended.

Yeah, but y'all don't understand.  That picture in the article shows some definite foreign-types.  So who cares if those damn hispan-kore-japa-africans lose their gravy train?  Article is clearly pushing an agenda.  REAL Americans have worked hard enough to sit on their asses and reap their rewards, not those funny-lookin' non-patriots!

I work with people who have no qualms of telling people to go work those jobs. But god forbid they lose their gravy train of slack, they'd never "debase" themselves by working in the service industry.

Yes, but preventing that would require giving lots of money to the poors, instead of funneling the entire United States economy directly into the pockets of billionaires.

They'll be fine once they sell their house and move somewhere more affordable.  California has been pushing people out for decades to cheaper places (which then pushes prices up and pushes those locals to more affordable areas, etc.).  Being from Honolulu they should be in extra good shape, too, since it's so expensive.  It's the Ten in the Bed song in real life it's very exciting.  Or sort of reverse hand me down real estate? It's something like that, and it sucks for locals everywhere.  Miss Rona is just accelerating the process.

To be fair, the 50 or so employee company I work for got some of that money.  They've been paying us for 40 hours a week since late March even though the shutdown induced reduced workload means many of us are only there (or working from home) for 3-4 hours a day.

So it was mostly grift, but not all.

In the same boat. I'll have decent money saved up by the end of July, but in the three fields I have experience/ expertise the job prospects are between nil and zero.

My parents are self-employed sole proprietors entertaining in senior & memory care facilities in the Phoenix area.  They completely stopped working on March 10th.  With the surge of the virus in AZ I have no idea how they are going to survive when the extra $600 a week ends July 25th.  AZ weekly unemployment without the additional funds is $240/$117.

Well, maybe. Besides trying to build sustainable habitats (because why would the rest of the world need something like that?) they're actively trying to figure out how to control the security personnel necessary to live in their private Elysium when SHTF, and collars are seriously under consideration. Some have floated the idea of bringing in the muscle's families, but 1) they don't wanna share and 2) what if they don't have family? That's a liability.

Of course, these are the same people responsible for the majority of the present and future predicament, and also the ones in the best place to prevent/mitigate calamity. But no, they're just gonna take their (our) ball and fark off while the rest of the planet goes Mad Max...if we're lucky to get that far.

Unless they create cyborgs or have robots that are advanced enough to operate like in Elysium, there is no way to fulfill those doomsday fantasies without their guards or staff turning on them.  The rich will burn with the rest of us and only someone as fundamentally stupid as say Peter Thiel or the douches creators from Reddit or any other slew of rich goofballs will think they can avoid the fallout.  At best, they buy themselves a year maybe two before it all comes undone.  Its pure death cult thinking and its the only lottery the rich are able to play now where the game isnt rigged in their favor.

Neat! This is exactly why I dig this site, constantly learning something.
To wit:    Based on a starting year of 3102 BCE and a duration of 432,000 years (1200 divine years), Kali Yuga began roughly 5,121 years ago and has 426,879 years remaining as of 2020 CE. Kali Yuga will end in the year 428,899 CE.

So we've got a long way to go...

Yep. I just ran my numbers yesterday. To catch up on all my bills that were deferred, I need around $2400 more than I have.

And I'm one of the lucky ones who still has a job - I've only lost two weeks pay so far, which the $1200 helped mitigate. Thankfully I also snagged a roommate before the shiat hit the fan.

My main, often only, client is hanging by the barest of threads right now. I'm taking additional work from them for no extra pay starting the end of this week to free up the client to try and generate more revenue.

If the work can hold, I think I can keep enough balls in the air to not go under. I'm currently debating advertising for a second roommate. I kinda don't want to given the spike my state is currently going through, but I don't have much of a choice in the matter.

I just put in for a suspension of mortgage payments yesterday, as I made my mortgage the last two months at the cost of other things. If I get that I should be in decent shape.

And I'm one of the lucky ones.

No way they let the economy tank right before an election.  Expect a second bailout and extension of the unemployment bonus money.  My bet is they extend it to December 31st 2020.  That way voters will be happy through the holidays.
The GOP has quite a few senate races that are also close, especially Susan Collins.  They gambled and faked COVID-19 infection numbers to open early and now that has blown up in their face.  Oh well, just another multi-trillion dollar mistake by Donald Trump.  Hey, remember when Trump and DeVos said we couldn't afford meals on wheels or special olympics funding?  Good times.

And when people can't make their mortgage payments the resulting foreclosure crisis will dwarf what happened in 2008.  That $600 is keeping us from sliding into a full on depression.
