It's true; Abbott squashed all local stay at home and mask orders. The blame is squarely on his shoulders.

Well subby, Abbott did override local authorities who were trying to stop.the spread of covid. Abbott owns that shiat sandwich.

Abbott doesn't seem as personally idiotic as DeSantis, but he's neck-and-neck in terms of abominable leadership.

She's not really a judge, sunny.  County Judge is more like a county manager.

But yeah, she's right.  This one is solely on Abbott.

Dallas judge Clay Jenkins said the same thing today too.

Conservative governors who are such gigantic pussies that they'd rather watch their populace get sick and die than piss off their President.

Guys... Trump's endorsement is not the ringer you think it is anymore. You've played yourself, and will be treated as an inhumane ghoul for the rest of your life.

No one could have foreseen that.

And yet, Abott think closing the bars and limiting the restaurants to 50% capacity while forcing anyone who still has a job to go back into the office and letting jagoffs congregate in mega churches will do the trick.  Oh dont forget, Nazis will be holding a convention in Houston in a few weeks right in the middle of the largest outbreak.  We are on track to go the 9th circle of hell to see the 3 Prime Evils and the 4 Greater Evils.......Hell, lets throw in Lilith too because why the hell not at this point.

Isn't Abbott the douche who said on Tucker's "show" that "the economy is more important than living"?  He was ticked off about the stay home orders and the GDP taking a hit.

Yeah, it's his fault.  F him.

Abbott placated a president and his 1000 idiot followers who thought masks = tyranny.

But to Trump, masks = weakness which is not tyranny at all. Plus narcissism.

so it is literally the stupidest political ethos of all time.

Just a friendly reminder to everyone. Just because something is open doesn't mean you're required to go. We're eating season tickets to Six Flags this year. Every year we get them for our kids at Christmas time including free parking and meal passes. We contacted Six Flags for a refund and they told us 'but we're open now. you can come and enjoy our Park'.  nope, just going to eat it this year. It's not going to last forever. If people would just chill the f*** out for a few months we would get past this. But people just have to get new hairdos and they just have to go out for drinks with their buddies and they just have to get their favorite nachos at their favorite restaurant. Ridiculous

My school district's (North Texas area) board just had a special meeting this evening to discuss how the 20-21 school year will begin. To paraphrase our super, " We're going to be in the classroom. There won't be any teaching from the kitchen table in your pajamas". My SO and I are turning in our resignations tomorrow.

QFarker: "I don't take any responsibility, at all."

Of course Trump is a dipshiat but in this case the dipshiat is the governor who overrode all local restrictions. Harris County and the city of Houston pretty early on issued nonessential business closed and a mandatory mask order. The mask order was overridden immediately and the business closures were overridden too early.

The judge is right, it is all the governor's fault and he knows it which is why he is now has reordered the closure of bars, is begging people to stay home and has started wearing a mask at his press conferences. This surge could have been avoided and all he had to do was nothing, instead he overrode local authorities who were doing the right thing.

I'm honestly scared about this: my kids are both still in school and my wife is a school teacher.

And now the AAP has come out and said "get the kids into school" because of social reasons. While understand the concern, if you you start giving a vector for transmission without the precautions that should be taken (i.e. masks, distancing) you end up killing the teachers so who covers for them?

This whole thing is a farking shiat show because the orange shiatgibbon didn't do what needed to be done and now we are going to have "accept" the people are going to die in droves.

Exactly. Texas Republicans are opposed to the tyranny of state and federal regulation overriding local policies, except when they can stick it to the blue cities.

See also: Abbott's "Special Session of Legislature" agendas, where he tries to overrule every local Austin ordinance that irritates him personally.

In case people are confused by the confusing title, in Texas a "county judge" has a mix of both judicial and administrative duties. They preside over the main governing body of each county, the court of commissioners.

2020-06-29 11:35:19 PM
Yeah, when you get undermined, you typically place the blame on the one that undermined you...

"We strongly recommend that everyone wear a mask," Abbott said at a press conference where he announced his plans for reopening Texas. "However, it's not a mandate. And we make clear that no jurisdiction can impose any type of penalty or fine.
"My executive order, it supersedes local orders, with regard to any type of fine or penalty for anyone not wearing a mask," he added.

Huh, go figure.  And now that things are going the way science predicted it would, Abbott says his secret plan all along was to let localities mandate that BUSINESSES have to require the mask wearing and that the business can be fined or penalized.  But he didn't say it at the time, cause he wanted the goofy big city libs to figure it out on their own.  He sure showed that uppity Lina who's really willing to get people sick to score political points!
