Subby here. On Wednesday we will pick up the newest addition to our family.  A brownish/blackish female retriever mix whose current name is "Andy".  (I'll post pics when we get her)

Typically we name our pups after sci-fi / fantasy characters...but I confess, I'm not familiar with a lot of female leads / interesting characters from the genre.

We also do know her personality yet...and that's a major factor.

So show your sci-fi / fantasy/ mythology book learnin' (TV / movie characters ok too)  and suggest female characters that you liked (or hated) with a brief description of their traits. ( (aggressive, domineering, kind, smart, etc)

I'll even toss in a free month of Total Fark if we pick your name.

I had my husky Arya for the better part of a week before deciding on that name.  The shelter had called her Buffy, but that wasn't going to work.

Anyway, I'm going to go Farscape and suggest Aeryn.

Call her Zhora for Joanna Cassidy's Blade Runner character. Pris might make a good name for a cat if you get her a buddy at some point.

No Futurama?
Leela, of course, because she kicks ass.

Also I'm gonna throw out Judy from the rebooted Lost in Space series because (regardless what you might think of the series... s2 was a little all over the place) she's a wonderful character.

Also, I think Missy from nuWho is an amazing character. (You probably shouldn't name her Missy's proper name-the Master-that could get confusing. Or it could be super fun. Ya never know.)

If she likes swimming and water, I'd suggest Thetis. She was one of the nereides, a greek water nymph. Thetis was a very popular and beautiful nymph, coveted by (among others) Zeus.. but she send him packing, proving her loyalty to her stepmother Hera. Eventually Thetis was best known for being Achilles mother. She bathed baby Achilles in the river Styx (bordering the underworld), so Thetis meant business!

(Also I learned to sail on a dinghy named Thetis, but that's not necessarily a reason to name a dog after her.)

GardenWeasel: Wednesday Addams <your last name>

My dogs are Wednesday and Pugsly

A good Sci FI female name is Sarah Conner, but always call the dog by its full name, tell people when she is lost that you are looking for Sarah Conner.

Tamara from Requiem for Homo Sapiens was very musically talented and she approached life with great zeal.  Killashandra from the Crystal Singer trilogy was similar.  Just in case your doggo makes a lot of noise. :)
