Well, a LOT of companies have already cut ad budgets because why spend a shiatload on advertising when many bars and restaurants and stadiums and colleges are still closed.

But you know, I'll allow it, if they want to lower the boom on Facebook, I'm fine with it, regardless of the reason.

Cutting off the flow of money is the only thing rich people are afraid of. They apparently don't fear the law or public scorn, as long as they have money, they don't give a shiat about anything else.

jayphat: I'm still seeing Unilever and Verizon ads on Facebook.

Most likely those were already paid for, what I've read is they're "pausing" any ad buys in July.

Corporations: Wow, COVID-19 is keeping us from building our 2nd swimming pool near the stables. How do we promote ourselves while cutting our advertising AND looking good to the masses?

Consultants: Stop buying ads on Facebook and say so as smugly as possible?

Corporations: But what media companies will be dumb enough to just blindly report our shameless pandering?

The real reason advertisers are dropping is not because of "hate speech"  its because you can't say anything without someone taking you to task.

Marketing slogan gives support/ You're not doing enough, what else have you got for us

Say nothing/ Silence is violence/complicity

Better to just sit on the sideline and not have to bend the knee to anyone

Chemlight Battery: Bookmarked so I can count how many come back once we've all stopped paying attention.

Pretty much.

Still, it's a start. And there is a *distinct* possibility that many of them will realize that not advertising on Facebook has no effect on their sales.

The dirty secret of internet advertising is that it doesn't really work. Everybody knows it, but nobody wants to accept it because it's *so cheap* and they get *so much data*. But it doesn't translate into sales.

In other news, companies are realizing that advertising on social media never had the ROI claimed by the vendors and/or their own marketing staff.
