GrizzlyPouch: Police officers don't set curfews.  They don't set the parameters (like who's allowed to be where, on their porch in their house etc.)

They don't set the rules of engagement on how to handle people not following their instructions (or whatever).  Politicians do all that.

You're blaming the hammer.   Blame the people who saw the problem as a nail and picked the hammer.

Nailed it.

Nobody has family get togethers at 11:30 at night in the middle of a curfew.  Stop trying to pretend they do.

People in the same building where this party was happening were calling the cops to break it up.

Despite what the article says, This wasn't a bunch of neighbors casually grilling with their families.

I guess you never get invited to stuff.  That sucks.

I mean, after reading their posts, I kind of understand why.

If only those Nazi's de Blasio and Cuomo had been able to see beyond their noses and not sic their little Blue Brown Shirt army on POC.

Clearly we need to elect some Democrats so this kind of thing won't happen anymore. Remember to vote Blue in November guys!

Greil: How is this complex enough that it needs an article? The pigs are literally selected for stupidity, this won't be hard.

1. Protesters protesting
2. Pigs wanna beat them
3. Make new law they can be in violation of
4. Beat them

It's really that straightforward.

For pigs, that's complex tactical thinking. Usually they skip the third step entirely.

The hammer has the ability to use common farking sense.  People in a building bbq'ing outside is not protesting, rioting, or causing any sort of disturbance.

The curfew set in place was for people out on the streets, not their own private farking property.

Oh wait, it was actually spelled out in the curfew.  They had no reason to do any of this... but they did.

Under the curfew you were fine as a local resident to be out in your neighborhood and on your own property.  Unless the building management called and said people were protesting they had no right to do what they did, let alone arrest anyone.  And even then if they showed up and found people bbq'ing they should've used common farking sense.

Fark off with your hammer analogy.

So they were having a bbq at 11:30 at night?

And the guy in the article said he was coming back home from the store?  Is that essential at 11:30 at night?

Know how I can tell that you've never been to a good BBQ?

Know how I can tell you don't know what having a bbq means?

If it's happening at 11:30 at night, it isn't your typical neighborhood bbq, even if you're cooking food.

The guy in the article didn't even use that term for it.

Curfews should be unconstitutional. There's literally no way for someone who works nights to reasonably practice their right to assemble peaceably if the presumption is always it won't be peaceably if it's past an arbitrary hour of the night.

Did you bother reading past that, and hell yeah!  Why not.  You think grandma in her walker was out looting in the yard of the building? His elderly dad was out looting and rioting?  Is that what you're implying?

Notice how there are no reports of any looting, rioting, or any other charges in article outside of "obstruction"?  You'd think if there was looting and rioting from these people having a barbecue it wouldve been thrown at them.

As for the store...  he could've been buying mixers, more snacks, cigs, booze, anything.  What the actual fark is suspicious about having to run to the corner store at 1130?  shiat it was just 1 person that made that run.  Are you implying

If you really really believe grandma, grandpa, pregnant women, and little kids were out there and up to no good because they were barbecuing at night you really need to check where you stand.  Did you bother watching the video of the old lady getting pushed down?  The one barely able to walk and you're trying to tell me she was up to no good and looting?

I just watched the video again, I don't see any grandmas or pregnant women.

Come to think of it, I'm trying to remember the last time I was doing something, anything at 11:30 at night and there were pregnant women and grandmas all over the place. Especially during the pandemic.

Nothing comes to mind

So the guy coming back may have been in violation of curfew.  If he was, a simple citation would have sufficed.

I've never had a curfew to violate, but I have had cops cut me a break for minor things so many times, that I think issuing this guy a ticket seems heavy handed.

/Do I sound white?

You sound like somebody capable of making good decisions.

I think everybody has had run ins with police from time to time that worked out fine. (And that could've been the case here)

It doesn't say it in this article, but they had been asked multiple times nicely by the police to go inside.  People who live in the building had been calling the police complaining about the gathering and the noise.

That's why the cops showed up in the first place.

Btw, here's some video of the incident. Turns out the police "dressed for war" have on t-shirts.  They don't even have on helmets.

And the "non-hostile" crowd is screaming at the cops and continuously running right up to them.

I think I'd rather blame both if that's fine with you.

I will say that I've been depressed how effectively politicians have obfuscated their role in all of this over the last month.

You can thank the media for that.  They should be screaming it every chance they get.

(They're not going to because the politicians in charge are all democrats)

None of this would have happened.  The pigs would have been someplace eating doughnuts or banging your wife or something.

But, I guess when you crammed people with COVID back into nursing homes to spread the virus around to all the old people, you have to do SOMETHING to distract people from your shenanigans.

So, it's really easy.  Pick the enemy du Jour and throw them out there to make a rucus.  They're happy and dumb enough to oblige you.

So while everyone is looking at the shiny thing over here, no one notices how farked up NY and NYC's leadership really is.

Cops don't impose illegal curfews or decide what policy to follow.  Most of them are just drones who do what they're told.  So if the Mayor says "go get 'em".  The cops do what any unleashed dog does.

At least Kenny and the Philly police chief admitted they were wrong for using tear gas on protesters.  It doesn't fix it.  It still makes both of them authoritarian scum.  But beat cops don't break out the tear gas and helmets because it's Tuesday during lent or something.
