To all the people in this thread: do you not see the connection between your thirst for revenge and the police state we live in? If you agree with the BLM movement and defunding the police, but still want extreme punitive punishment for criminals without the possibility of rehabilitation or prevention, then you have a lot of soul searching to do. You can't have it both ways.

Cafe Threads: "Former police officer."

And they wonder why we look at them all askance.

I'm surprised his former department didn't make a few calls, get the charges dropped and then offer him the position of chief.

The police union is slacking...

My Second Fark Account: Basically, can people please stop it with the "I hope this person experiences all the worst stuff I can think of" comments. It's stupidly unhelpful.

White knighting a serial rapist and mass murderer likely won't get you very far. Justice is being served, not revenge.

I personally hope this evil asshole experiences at least 1/10th the pain, suffering, and horror he inflicted on others.

wee: Magnus: I know.  Good thing a crew of social workers tracked down this bastard.

When they interviewed the dude who was a sheriff investigating the case, you could see him sort of deflate when he started explaining his department's utter failure to protect the women in his community.

Didn't feel bad for the guy, since he was an utter farking failure and will die knowing he didn't stop women and girls from being raped because of politics. (Did feel bad for the ladies, especially the one who can't play piano anymore because she was raped at age 15 after he snuck up on her when she was playing.)

I never read a reason for why this guy was no longer a cop.

He must have been forced to either quite and at some point police departments would not hire him.

There must be a reason, and I suspect the police knew he was a killer years ago and told him quite the police department or they would send him to jail.

You'll probably get a few bites with that.

No real bites. My intent isn't to troll though. The reason why we as a society are in the mess we're in is precisely because we project the revenge mentality fueled by rare, exceptional cases like this one onto poor people and minorities whose crimes are more minor, and often driven by economical forces. Sex crimes is a more special category, but the same sort of cognitive dissonance applies there as well. And then we're all surprised pikachu when cops and courts do bad things in the name of justice and protection.

Basically, can people please stop it with the "I hope this person experiences all the worst stuff I can think of" comments. It's stupidly unhelpful.

cman: Why are there folks out there who want to close off public DNA databases to investigators?

This farker would still be free if it wasnt for such a database

Becuase it's child's play to synthesize DNA from a sample and contaminate the already obtained evidence. A match is a slam dunk to simplistic juries.

Dangerous_sociopath: If nothing else ever comes of this, I hope they can change rape to have the statue of limitations removed.

You're aptly named.

Statutes of Limitation exist for a reason.  Not for the protection of the guilty, but to protect the innocent.

"Don't remove a fence until you fully understand why it was erected in the first place".

AngryTeacher: Mad_Radhu: I watched the first of episode of I'll Be Gone in the Dark last night. So far, it's been a really good documentary.

The podcast Man in the Window was really good too.

This is also the reason why I will never do a 23 and me or anything like that.

This case is exactly the reason WHY I joined 23andme.  If I have a rapist or murderer in my family tree, the law can have them.

Read the headline as "Golden State Warriors Joseph DeAngelo" and wondered who that was. Warriors brought in a lot of unknown players last year due to injuries so figured it was one of them.
