If she had a medical condition where a mask would interfere with her breathing, she's probably in deeper trouble over leaving her oxygen tank at home.

Anyone who has worked in the industry long enough - or hell, even simply lived in Los Angeles long enough - recognizes the type.

This here is a failed actor. And like so many other aspiring hearts who have failed to reach the pinnacle of their dreams in what is, after all, a damned ruthless biz ... she has found that screeching politics are in fact easier.

Look for the 'Access Hollywood' interview and a Fox & Friends first appearance by week's end. If the audience tracking is favorable enough she'll be invited back a few times and will eventually earn a slot, however small. TJ Karen's "Culture Minute" is a definite possibility.

The woman, who asked ABC7 not to use her name, says she called a Trader Joe's store in Toluca Lake and was given permission by the manager to come in and shop without a facial covering. But she claims she mistakenly went to North Hollywood where another manager told her she would make an exception allowing her to buy groceries without a mask on that day only.

Looks like she exceeded her U.S. Recommended Daily Allowance of manager talk.

Yup. Still live here. Lived in South Africa for about 12 years then moved back here with the family. And yelling at the country where you live in where a large section of the elected government is doing everything in their power to make this plague worse, seems pretty fair to me. Also the fact that acknowledging that the virus is even a damn problem, while said country has a quarter of the global deaths from this outbreak alone, seems to be a fraking partisan issue makes it obvious that there is a serious societal problem on your hands and again seems pretty fair to me. Sometimes you have to yell at kids in order to get the message into their heads that they REALLY screwed up this time. And your country is, at this moment, playing the child throwing a gigantic tantrum because someone is telling him to brush his teeth before bed and he doesn't wanna.

Name calling has its place.

This woman is a moron.  She doesn't need to be convinced of anything except that she has to follow the damn rules like everyone else.  You don't need to convince her of the wisdom of the rules, why the exist, nor anything else.  Because you won't.  Because she's a moron.  All you can do is use public shaming and induce enough stress so that the person has negative connotations associated with her rule breaking.  Eventually the math checks out in her head "It's not worth the effort to break the rule."

This is how children are taught.  It works.  It is the only method we've figured out in our entire civilization.

Coincidentally, it is also what these maskless idiots are doing.  They are hoping that their tantrum will make the businesses do the math and think "Oh man, it's not worth it to enforce this, I'll let it slide."

She wants to play the game.  So let's play it.

I still wear a mask for several hours at time, several days a week in my "essential" job, and have been this entire farking time. Since the beginning of the outbreak, all through it, and still today. I have had to wear a mask to work since February in order to stay safe and protect others.

I didn't get a month or two off from work. My mask use isn't just limited to my grocery trips and shopping outings. I travel from town to town for work, dealing with Covidiots in redneck parts of the state, and suffering not only the effects of wearing the mask (hot, uncomfortable, makes work a lot less enjoyable) but also taking abuse from those assholes. I have since early March when I had people calling me "farking insane" for wearing a mask. Since then, I've had conservative anti-maskers walking right up close to me, shooting glares at me, and generally being assholes because I am trying to protect them from spreading the virus from one town to another, as well as protecting myself.

So anyone whining about wearing a mask can go fark themselves with their MAGA hat.

Slightly off topic. When I lived in the UK I had a French collegue who once spent his lunch break biatching about how shiat England was. After about half an hour of his nonsense I called over and said "you're French, you've chosen to come here and you're choosing to stay. Either England's better than France, or you're an idiot. Yesterday I was in a Publix in the Atlanta area. About 90% of people wore masks. One exception was a 40ish white woman; well dressed, full makeup, and walking around with a smug look on her face.

When she looked at me, she sneered.  So, I'm pretty sure she was looking for a confrontation.

Normally I'd release my inner biatch, but I was in a hurry. From now on I'll make extra time to give them what they want, since they don't seem to get how the videos of their tantrums only make them look bad.

Sure, like, if your jaw was missing, or you already have an oxygen tube or mask. Or a really, really, (and I'm talking really) nasty rash. You know, stuff that would be visually obvious.

Also if you medically can't put a mask on the solution isn't that they let you into the store without one.

If 80% of people consistantly wore masks that were at least 60% effective (which includes double layer cloth masks) this virus epidemic would be over in a month. But nooooo that's too hard.

Honestly, I'm really irritated more airtime isn't spent flogging this message. Yeah. These dingbats think they can scream ADA and demand their "accommodation."

That's not what the law says. "Reasonable" not "Requested" is the word used. Oh, and it explicitly says that you do not have to offer an accommodation if doing so would jeopardize the health and safety of others.

So, a store could...

1) I'm sorry, masks are required. We welcome you to order online for delivery.
2) I'm sorry, masks are required. We could have someone pull the items for you.

Both would be reasonable accommodations to a person who was unable to wear a mask. However, the store can simply say

1) I'm sorry. The ADA explicitly rejected accommodations that would jeopardize the health and safety of others, and we have determined that not wearing a mask does just that.

I would actually challenge that to a degree. I'm in TX, and went out for a variety of errands on Saturday in rural, suburban, and urban areas. The cross section of people NOT wearing masks was pretty heterogeneous. Old/young/white/black....my SO counted on her phone and it was right at about 50/50 wearing/not wearing. The one exception to this was the liquor store (yeah, after 3 months we finally ran out) which was 100% no mask, including employees...and she counted 33 people in the time we were there.
Is it any wonder why TX COVID has skyrocketed? Thanks, Gov Abbott!!

But we lack the political will to mandate it, the cultural cohesion to follow it, the infrastructure to enforce it, and the empathy to care.

This woman is actively harming the cause of abused women.  She's grasping at straws, and because people are laughing at her anti-science/anti-mask/repugnant political beliefs, she's clearly trying to revise history and doesn't mind dragging down abused women with her and making their lives more difficult.

The people I know that legitimately have breathing and/or lung issues - like my husband - are pretty much 100% mask-users. Because they KNOW what would happen to them if they caught this thing given their co-morbidities. I do most of the food shopping and such (masked and distanced of course) and if he has to go places he protects himself.

These people with "severe breathing problems" that have no problem getting in a screaming match with people are just overgrown children.

Holy shiat.....I can actually chime in on this!

I live near Boston and have been to the Cambridge TJ's.  I have family out on L.A. that are withing walking distance of TJ's where this all went down.

Despite the Hollywood TJ's working awfully hard to compete on the same level as the Rock n' Roll Ralph's down the street, it is very much a homogeneous experience, and not just in the food.  The crew in L.A. isn't nearly as overtly flambouyant or alternative as the Boston/Cambridge experience but it is much more present than other places I've bought groceries out there.

You could drop the C-bomb and I don't think it would matter.  I DO however think if you dropped the C-bomb at volume while making a scene in front of a cell phone camera making a video that went viral then they'd be more prone to find some pearls to clutch for effect.

Having been day drunk in both I can tell you that like most places as long as you don't act like a mutant you're fine.

do you still live in the country in which you were born? no one picks where they will be born and as a child raised. (full disclosure, i've wanted to visit namibia since the late '90s, not sure exactly why.)

but yeah, yelling at people for the country they reside in is pretty stupid. most people on earth have no choice, and for all but the very rich emigrating is very hard and often dangerous.

And your country is, at this moment, playing the child throwing a gigantic tantrum because someone is telling him to brush his teeth before bed and he doesn't wanna.

no. not "our country."

trump himself, mitch mcconnell, the .01% of americans they are aiding daily in making more money, and 30% of the population -at most- who supports all of this, even when it directly degrades their own quality of life. this bipedal human scum is not "america."

however, if you want to yell at and shame all the eligible adult americans who simply "choose not to vote and not to care" i'll help you.

But you're not inherently wrong.

There is a rule that is in place that is a matter of life and death.  People knowingly violate it.  They will weaponize themselves and try to cough or spit on you.  I have not ever seen a police officer arrest anyone for violating these ordinances/laws.  There is no enforcement mechanism.

Time was, before cameras, there was a threat to such instigators that eventually they'd fark with the wrong person and the situation would be resolved with rough handling.  Now the stores and the public cannot do that, because if there is footage of such rough handling the police WILL respond to that and make an arrest some time later.  The police do NOT enforce laws that uphold the social contract but they will certainly punish those who try to enforce the social contract.

We've lost some of the glue that held society together and now it's unraveling before us.

Sure, like, if your jaw was missing, or you already have an oxygen tube or mask. Or a really, really, (and I'm talking really) nasty rash. You know, stuff that would be visually obvious.

Also if you medically can't put a mask on the solution isn't that they let you into the store without one.

I agree I'm just tired of the rhetoric from people that don't have an actual medical condition using this imaginary person for the wood if somebody can't wear one excuse. Am I answer is will those people don't actually have to go into the store. Or they can call ahead to Their Doctor's office and they can make an accommodation in which they wear a mask for a very short period of time till they get to a Room.  If you have psychological issues claustrophobia issues just order your stuff and do curbside pickup and the rare situation that's not available have somebody going and do your shopping for you
