RussianPotato: innominatedude: "sociopath?"

You just can't argue a point without juvenile name calling it seems.

Name calling has its place.

This woman is a moron.  She doesn't need to be convinced of anything except that she has to follow the damn rules like everyone else.  You don't need to convince her of the wisdom of the rules, why the exist, nor anything else.  Because you won't.  Because she's a moron.  All you can do is use public shaming and induce enough stress so that the person has negative connotations associated with her rule breaking.  Eventually the math checks out in her head "It's not worth the effort to break the rule."

This is how children are taught.  It works.  It is the only method we've figured out in our entire civilization.

Coincidentally, it is also what these maskless idiots are doing.  They are hoping that their tantrum will make the businesses do the math and think "Oh man, it's not worth it to enforce this, I'll let it slide."

She wants to play the game.  So let's play it.

Brosephus: FrancoFile: Brosephus: Brosephus: I believe that one of the last items she threw looks like a mask. I could be wrong, but I've seen numerous reports of her wearing a mask when she entered. I'm sure there's security footage somewhere that shows her from her car through the front door.

Yep, upon review of the video, she's holding a mask in her left hand along with a cellphone. The last thing she says is she has a mask as she throws it in the air.

I hate farking liars.

Different incident.

My bad. They all run together after a while. She must have been the one in the teal colored shirt then.

North Holywood Trader Joe's Karen was middle aged, wearing a Bebe shirt over big fake boobs, and was right up in the face of the person filming.

What you linked to was Dallas Karen, in some other supermarket; obviously younger and thinner, just yelling at the world in general.

Just doing my part for cladistic Karenology.

I love that when nothing else works, she decides to go with the "All men are predators and all women are victims" defense.

"Karens" are a natural outcome of feminism.

of course. the entire world would be better off if every female just sat down, shut up, and made babies like the good book says! right?

tell me you're joking.

no, dear, "karens" are the natural outcome of wealth and social privilege leading to petty spoiled adults who think they "deserve" everything they want the second they want it, without a thought for others and without ever experiencing a negative consequence for their actions in their life.

female "karens" weren't raised as radical feminists hunting and fixing cars with their brothers, they were raised as daddy's little princess. a princess with a blow-out sweet 16 and a $100,000 wedding (and second wedding too!).

trump is the biggest karen on the planet. and he is not a woman.

Based on the sign on local grocery and convenience stores here:
No shoes? No shirt?
No pants? No Mask?
No Service! No Exceptions!

I hate masks, but even I wear one in public because.. Oh, I am not an arrogant, ignorant, entitled crybaby. These people have NO IDEA - the fact you can still go out with a mask? You are NOT being oppressed. You want oppressed? Keep it up and be forced to stay in your homes, guards on every street, and you want groceries? You have to order them 3 days in advance and hope the food pickers are not going to send you all the wilted, rotten, and expired crap. Personally, I think we should send all the mask-haters to DC as their leader seems to live there these days. Maybe we can clean up DC this way? :)

I would actually challenge that to a degree. I'm in TX, and went out for a variety of errands on Saturday in rural, suburban, and urban areas. The cross section of people NOT wearing masks was pretty heterogeneous. Old/young/white/black....my SO counted on her phone and it was right at about 50/50 wearing/not wearing. The one exception to this was the liquor store (yeah, after 3 months we finally ran out) which was 100% no mask, including employees...and she counted 33 people in the time we were there.
Is it any wonder why TX COVID has skyrocketed? Thanks, Gov Abbott!!

I have had Legionella, bronchitis, pneumonia, and actually momentarily died from the original Legionella I suffered when I was a kid. My lungs are well and truly farked. I still wear a mask for several hours at time, several days a week in my "essential" job, and have been this entire farking time. Since the beginning of the outbreak, all through it, and still today. I have had to wear a mask to work since February in order to stay safe and protect others.

I didn't get a month or two off from work. My mask use isn't just limited to my grocery trips and shopping outings. I travel from town to town for work, dealing with Covidiots in redneck parts of the state, and suffering not only the effects of wearing the mask (hot, uncomfortable, makes work a lot less enjoyable) but also taking abuse from those assholes. I have since early March when I had people calling me "farking insane" for wearing a mask. Since then, I've had conservative anti-maskers walking right up close to me, shooting glares at me, and generally being assholes because I am trying to protect them from spreading the virus from one town to another, as well as protecting myself.

So anyone whining about wearing a mask can go fark themselves with their MAGA hat.

The people I know that legitimately have breathing and/or lung issues - like my husband - are pretty much 100% mask-users. Because they KNOW what would happen to them if they caught this thing given their co-morbidities. I do most of the food shopping and such (masked and distanced of course) and if he has to go places he protects himself.

These people with "severe breathing problems" that have no problem getting in a screaming match with people are just overgrown children.

Trainspotr: I don't need to know your specific health condition, ma'am. I would like to know the name of just one medical condition which prevents you from wearing a mask in public, but which does allow you to walk around freely while there is a deadly respiratory disease being breathed on you by potentially everyone else you met.

Because I'm pretty sure you can get groceries delivered.

Yeah. These dingbats think they can scream ADA and demand their "accommodation."

That's not what the law says. "Reasonable" not "Requested" is the word used. Oh, and it explicitly says that you do not have to offer an accommodation if doing so would jeopardize the health and safety of others.

So, a store could...

1) I'm sorry, masks are required. We welcome you to order online for delivery.
2) I'm sorry, masks are required. We could have someone pull the items for you.

Both would be reasonable accommodations to a person who was unable to wear a mask. However, the store can simply say

1) I'm sorry. The ADA explicitly rejected accommodations that would jeopardize the health and safety of others, and we have determined that not wearing a mask does just that.

SomeAmerican: COVID-19 spread would be mostly contained if people would just all wear masks.  Leave the house, wear a mask, no exceptions... problem mostly solved.

But we lack the political will to mandate it, the cultural cohesion to follow it, the infrastructure to enforce it, and the empathy to care.

^THIS

If 80% of people consistantly wore masks that were at least 60% effective (which includes double layer cloth masks) this virus epidemic would be over in a month. But nooooo that's too hard.

Honestly, I'm really irritated more airtime isn't spent flogging this message. If we had an effective president, or even a semi-effective one who gave two shiats about their job, we would have a coordinated "80/60" campaign and a flock of on-message surrogates and some political will driving it home.

Sure, like, if your jaw was missing, or you already have an oxygen tube or mask. Or a really, really, (and I'm talking really) nasty rash. You know, stuff that would be visually obvious.

Also if you medically can't put a mask on the solution isn't that they let you into the store without one.

I agree I'm just tired of the rhetoric from people that don't have an actual medical condition using this imaginary person for the wood if somebody can't wear one excuse. Am I answer is will those people don't actually have to go into the store. Or they can call ahead to Their Doctor's office and they can make an accommodation in which they wear a mask for a very short period of time till they get to a Room.  If you have psychological issues claustrophobia issues just order your stuff and do curbside pickup and the rare situation that's not available have somebody going and do your shopping for you
