George, you make 2020 just a little bit better every time you post. Thank you.

My neighborhood Facebook page is in the midst of a civil war caused by this mask issue. It's been fun watching people get torn to shreds.

One guy posted about some kind of upcoming spiritual awakening. That was weird.

Why are people acting like this is a good thing?

The Japanese internment crap was horrible. People should have complained. People should have protested and rioted. It was completely unjust.

If I were raped by five men outside a bar, and you were raped by one person at a frat... should you be expected not to complain if I didn't? Of course not.

Your spin is that people are celebrating along with George that he was in camps? Really?

Yep, just ignore all the peer reviewed papers from respected medical journals listed in the article.

No doubt cause the Rancourt guy is a committed left-wing activist and also a scientist.

I don't think George's point was that there wasn't complaining in the internment camps.  I think his point was that there was plenty of complaining in the internment camps, and yet the level of complaining about being imprisoned in a historically gross violation of civil rights has somehow been surpassed by people complaining about a minor inconvenience for the good of the public health.  Anyway, here's Drunk History to lighten the mood:

He never said that. Of course there was plenty of biatching and moaning and wailing.
What he did say is that the biatching and moaning and wailing about the masks is even worse.
it was a good joke about the mask Magidiots.

If you claim to have some peer reviewed papers that prove that fire is wet, I'm not going to click on that, either.

Good. Because it is not true. Water is only wet in the range of 1-99 degrees Celsius in Earth gravity at Earth sea level. Otherwise it is not. :)

Now I'm sad, because I remember feeling so sure that Dan Quayle represented rock bottom for national US politicians.   Remember, the guy chosen for VP because he couldn't possibly overshadow G.H.W. "thousand points of light" Bush?

Maybe he couldn't spell potato, but at least he wouldn't try to count to it.

Potatoes, Potato     whatever.

What a terrible thing to have lost one's mind. Or not to have a mind at all. Like that Biden guy.

I feel sad too

Maybe it's because yes, masks don't prevent infection, but also yes, they do reduce infection very significantly, to the point that if everyone wore a mask then the pandemic would die out.  From the same Twitter thread:

So your cartoon was peer reviewed in a twitter thread?  The same twitter that permanently banned Graham Linehan for saying "men aren't women tho" ...?

He was in an internment camp? Gee, he's never mentioned that before.

I can't breathe in the farking thing but I wear it anyway because I live in a society and that's what society says I have to do. And I have a cool mask from the Whiskey a Go Go in Hollywood.

Oh nose. I can't Farking read. I made a big fool of myself above. He said fire is wet. Oh no. How will I ever live this down. The internet will Dox me forever now. I am gonna go and hide under the bed. I hope the rats don't bite.

Scotland (pop 5m) is now almost clear of COVID-19. New cases are down to a handful a day, and nobody had died of it for three days as of yesterday. And yet masks here are only compulsory on public transport and very few people wear them otherwise.

Masks may help, but they are neither necessary nor sufficient. Stay apart, wash your hands and isolate if you have symptoms.

Meanwhile, in the US the window to contain the virus is closing by the day, thanks to scientific ignorance, political shenanigans, half-hearted measures and too early reopening.

There was a post being shared on the FB pages for the local communities that claimed OSHA was telling everyone that masks do more harm than good. Not just in terms of this pandemic, but in general. Dust masks don't really help you in, you know, dusty environments. The worst offender, apparently, are the cloth masks. Those are the devil. They'll kill you faster than the virus. Which made sense, because several posters pointed out that the virus was a hoax due to them not knowing anyone who had it.
So the total hoax angle is coming back. Or never really left. Which is nice.

Is this mask controversy even a thing anywhere else? Seems like it's just a 'Mercian deal. What a destructive society we have.
