The entire episode is basically a complete negation of Rick and Morty fanwank theories but here we are with another one.

So, in about 18 months' time, a cartoon might address something about a couple of the characters.

By Grabthar's Hammer, what an excitements.

Meh.  Show is still likely to be 80% shooting aliens.

Wine Sipping Elitist: ///The fans are super powerful but ruin everything good by wanting more

Does that make me the best fan for entirely losing interest when they basically made it clear they had no interest in the production themselves and went to the "amateur webcomic written by a college freshman struggling with alcoholism" publication schedule?

... sorry, I know it's dickish to drop into a thread about something to point out that you haven't been watching it, but the setup line was too perfect to resist.

Rick is a god, but he doesn't do time travel.

It's mentioned in a commentary that the original idea for this overly-complicated machine is that it wasn't just going to kill this Rick, but EVERY Rick in EVERY universe.  Rick was attempting sui-genocide.

Then it's suggested ... maybe that's what happened to Beth's mother.  And that's why Beth's mother isn't in any realities, anywhere.  And also, THAT is why Rick hates himself more than anything else.

Simple, Morty is Rick when he was young.  Beth's mother is Summer.  Which means, Rick marries his granddaughter, had Beth, who then gave birth to Rick.  Rick changed his name from Morty to keep the story a secret.  Also means, Rick doesn't just hate Jerry for screwing his daughter, but also sucking at being his father.  Rick's wife was also his granddaughter, and sister.  Rick is his own grandpaw.

you get all that?

Lsb (lame story bro):

Back in 1998, when South Park announced they were going to have an episode where they revealed the identity of Cartman's Father, they said it would be aired in 6 weeks.  I saw on the calendar that the exact date was April 1st.  I figured the South Park guys were setting their fans up.  I remember the OUTRAGE from fans when it happened.

April's come and gone.  But this....this feels a LOT like that.

Nah, my current head cannon is it'll partially lobotimize him, not kill off all the Ricks. Id like to think shiat Eating Rick was the only one to go through with it.

I was hoping it was going to be a running gag. When ever they said Cartman's parentage would come up, it would be a fakeout to a different story. But Fan Dumb (CAUTION: TV Tropes link) reared its ugly head and helped piss off Parker and Stone.

Except we see exactly what it does (in that universe at least) when he tests it beforehand. It's possible it has a different effect on humans than the thing he tested, but that's reaching awfully hard.

The problem is that "what happened to Rick's wife" is not a "mystery," it's just something the show doesn't tell the viewer. The characters in the show know what happened; they just never mention it because the writers deliberately leave it unknown.

They had a golden opportunity to do basically the reverse of that for a series finale this year and blew it. Then again, the 'rona would've probably messed it up anyway.
