(Greensboro News & Record)   311 Speedway's attempt at a joke by selling "Bubba Rope" after the Talladega noose situation goes over surprisingly well. And by surprisingly well we mean a touring series pulled their three races and the track lost all but two sponsors   (greensboro.com) divider line

Hmm...

Fulp said he knows his troubles are self-inflicted, but that he meant no harm.

"I was trying to be funny, trying to make jokes. Because I really do have four of those Bubba Ropes (a brand name of synthetic winch line) I'm trying to sell," Fulp said. "... They went on Facebook and used that (picture of a) noose out of a NASCAR garage and put it in my (post). They took a joke and made it racial."

Fulp paused a moment.

"I'm not a racist," he said. "I'm not a racist. I don't know how they ..."

His voice trailed off, and he broke down and cried in deep sobs for next 19 seconds.

"I never want to hurt anybody or anything," he said at last. "You know, there was a rat out there, running around outside here for two weeks, living under the shed. I had people working here telling me, 'Mike, you need to kill that rat.' But I couldn't even bring myself to do that. I don't want violence. I can't stand violence."

He doesn't seem irredeemable. Just a little dumb, not to mention pig-farking ignorant about black people. Hopefully, he can learn from this, use the experience to learn and grow, and keep his track in the long run.

Notice he didn't say he was sorry, not once in that whole ramble?

He's only sad because of the results, he's not sorry for what he did. If he was, then he could be forgiven.

Man-up Fulp-up, get to work educating  the other Fulp-ups like yourself. A knee, a tazer, a rubber bullet, or ugly words are all forms of violence. Now is the time to stop it.

Racists never think they're racist. They can't help it.

In the South, there are plenty of bad thoughts about black people but most folks keep them quiet or share in limited company. Something has changed where racists feel free to let us know what they think, over and over, and they enjoy the hell out of it, too.  I wonder what changed?

Xai: ...he's not sorry for what he did. If he was, then he could be forgiven.

I kind of doubt that. The lady from SF a couple weeks ago used a classic (and obviously professionally assisted) apology in the form of "clearly state what I did wrong, why it was wrong, and what I will do in order to correct my behavior in the future" style apology. It helped her not at all at receiving forgiveness from the internet.

But have these anachronistic views about a just punishment being proportionate to the original crime and these punishment for these internet hate campaigns usually run on for years after they break, so he's probably just farked his entire life up for the next decade.

No, you destroyed it.  By being a racists asshat who thinks he's not racist, but considers nooses (which have a VERY strong history in the south) a joke.  Hmmmmmmm..... yeah.  Go with that you PoS.

Fortunately, you get to learn the lesson.  Hopefully.  Stop being a racists shiatbag.

Came here to comment on that exact bit. This is entirely self-inflicted.

And I'd love to know who the two remaining sponsors are.

OK - am I not getting this?  From this comment it sounds like he was selling "Bubba Rope", an actual brand name.  No harm no foul there, though he should have been sensitive about using the brand.  At that point, some other people took his FB ad, added the noose in and then posted that, and this guy got held responsible for that... I guess?

I missed the original story - but if that's the way it went, it seems people are angry at the wrong guy.

Or is he just lying to get out of trouble?

Yes there is a brand of winch line called bubba rope.

Yes he was raffling it off.

Was the wording he used wrong?
Yes, without knowing winch line brands anyone in the general public wouldn't know what " bubba rope" exactly is and that it's a winch line.

No one cares enough of a local track, so it was someone looking exactly for his track that set this off. So yeah it is his fault, and yes he's full of shiat

The problem with these racists shiatbags is that they actually don't think their views are wrong.  Living in FL & GA I've known way too many who will try & act like they aren't racists at work or in public, but in private are convinced they are better simply because they are straight white & male.

They don't understand it's wrong or their views are complete garbage.  They're like sociopaths trying to mimic normal behavior because they'd get in trouble otherwise.   When they do get called out on it their defense is free speech, or PC culture running wild, or the latest BS they get from the plague rat in chief, it was only a joke.

They grew up this way, they'll die this way & unfortunately they're passing it on to their spawn.

When I was a kid growing up in very rural Missouri, I was in a 4H club.  We spent time on all sorts of useful topics from gardening, to chickens, to bull semen, to woodwork, to soybeans, to growing walnut trees, to tractor maintenance.  One evening, we spent the entire two hours learning how to make a hangman's noose.  We learned many other rope knots but that evening we spent 100% of our time on hangman's noose.  I remember thinking at the time it didn't seem to have much practical use.  Little did I know, apparently.  I still know most of these people.  We don't talk about race.  There are Trump stickers on some of their trucks.  I don't need to talk race with them......I know.

Please. A little dumb and pig-farking ignorant might be an excuse if this was a joke made by a 12 year old. But it wasn't. It was made by a grown man. The only thing he was ignorant about not grasping that millions of people have taken the stance that enough is enough when it comes to "jokes" like this.

rats = black people
not asking for them to be killed = not being racist

I'm sure that'll be satisfactory to everyone.

Absolutely correct. He's not sorry, he's sorry he got caught. He's a piece of excrement with zero redeeming qualities.

I'd have an ounce of respect for him if he'd man up and admit to being a racist and that he'd sincerely like to change. He's a coward so that'll never happen.

The bottom line is that southern white racism has survived due to apathy, There has been apathy towards southern racists for many reasons, but In my opinion it has been to trying to win their vote. I think that the Trump admin has taught many is you will never win their vote - hamstring them. Make them hurt. We've spent enough time trying to convince them. It's now time to get them to beg for forgiveness.

Racing in general is pretty heavily white. I've been to more than a few races, mostly short tracks (Eldora, Toledo, Flat Rock, others, all quarter mile or thereabouts) and people of color are a damn rare sight. Racers of color are even more uncommon. Those are also going to be places where the nascar confederate flag ban is going to be hardest to see work.

My last race at Flat Rock, you would think I was in Georgia, not thirty miles into Michigan. One superstock driver had their car decked like the General Lee, and the cheers were crazy. I admit I cheered when they got put into a wall.

Freedom of speech means you can say what you want and the Government can't arrest you for it , it does not mean that private citizens and businesses have to give give you a free pass as well.    Actions have consequences good or bad.   You opened your mouth and let the stupid pour forth and now you can deal with what your stupid has brought upon you.

To your point, there are currently 26 black players in the NHL. There have been 8 total black drivers to start a NASCAR race in its history.
