You know who probably was briefed? Obama. And the other former presidents.

When I was in high school, a couple of guys made a huge mess in one of the bathrooms during lunch. The principal called every guy into his office one-by-one. When he got to me, my answer was that I wasn't even in the cafeteria that day. As those words came out of my mouth, I realized that I admitted that I was skipping the lunch period.

The excuse was worse than the truth.

Trump's already retweeting videos of his supporters chanting "white power" this morning. The media will be chasing that red laser dot all day, and the bounty story will disappear from the news by the time the evening news is broadcast.

It would be nice to have a president more concerned about our troops than long dead traitor statues.

Seems like the Benghazi Committee needs to get the band back together on this one.

Let's look at the logic and the implications of the claim that neither Trump nor Pence were briefed on the intelligence assessment that Russia offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants to kill US/coalition troops in Afghanistan. 1/10

First, read the NYT article by @charlie_savage, @EricSchmittNYT, and @mschwirtz, with details about the reported Russian military intel unit behind this, the high-level USG discussions about responses, and the White House not authorizing any of them. 2/10

The White House claims he wasn't. Normally, presidential aides would want to *avoid* telling the world he's ill-informed. That doing so looks like their best strategy here reveals much. Let's examine the options. 3/10

Maybe multiple sources are all wrong and there is no such assessment. (Neither the White House nor other entities have denied the core of the reporting, making this option quite unlikely, but it's theoretically possible.) If so, shame on the sources. 4/10

Maybe the assessment was briefed only sub-POTUS because it was judged not to merit his attention. (This would be at odds with reporting just now by the same NYT trio-that it was, in fact, in the President's Daily Brief.) If so, shame on the system. 5/10

Maybe POTUS was, in fact, orally briefed on it-but White House officials have decided to lie about it, perhaps in a weak attempt to avoid the logical next question: Why hasn't the commander in chief responded to such a grave development? If so, shame on them. And on him. 6/10

Maybe POTUS was "briefed" on it-not orally but only in writing, presumably (but not necessarily) in the President's Daily Brief. If so, White House officials now pushing the line that he wasn't briefed on it are playing semantic games. If so, shame on them. And on him. 7/10

Maybe it was in the written PDB, but Trump didn't see it (reports say he doesn't read it, preferring irregular oral briefings) *and* readers like the NatSec Advisor, SecState, and SecDef saw it *and* they forgot to ensure he knew about it. If so, shame on them. And on him. 8/10

Maybe it was deemed too sensitive to put in the PDB and restricted to a memo/oral briefing only for POTUS and 1-2 others. Then how was it debated, as reports indicate, at an NSC interagency meeting? Any explanation like this returns us to one or more of the shames above. 9/10

Or maybe the assessment was in the PDB and other regular PDB readers saw it, but it wasn't orally briefed to POTUS so he never got it, and nobody in the system wanted this commander in chief to get it, because they were afraid of what he'd do, or *not* do, after getting it. 10/10

How would Donnie know that PDB? It's like a 6 out of 10, totally not his type. Maybe it just delivered coffee to a meeting, like, once.

He uses distractions to get the media to change the conversation for him. I don't think he gives a shiat what the distractions are. He just flings shiat until something sticks. The racism was just what I happened to see when I woke up this morning. There will be more shiat flung before the morning talk shows are done.

If they said that Trump didn't know, but now he does, and he's going to do these specific things about it, it just may sound plausible.

But that is not what happened.

Trump made it absolutely clear to his staff that he does not want to hear about Russian election interference, or anything else bad about Russia. He told them he doesn't want to know. And the current crowd of wimps around him is scared of him. So no, he wasn't told.

Reporter: President Trump, it's been reported that the National Security Council held multiple discussions, as far back as March, about the Russian GRU bounty paid for killing American soldiers in Afghanistan. But it has also been reported that you were never briefed on the intelligence or the discussions.

And yet you always seem to know what happened on Fox and Friends every morning.

I don't really have a question, I just wanted to point out what a sorry excuse you are for a Commander-in-Chief

It's like evolution.  It isn't a strategy, it is Trump.  It got him the White House, it got him this far and Trump is both incapable and unwilling to change (can you imagine Trump not trying to make everything about himself?).

Perhaps, but there are a lot of veterans out there.  And from what I've seen, they are NOT taking this well, nor are they giving him the benefit of the doubt.

What part of Donald J Trump is killing Americans is confusing?

He had that graduation ceremony to COLLECT on bounties.

Trump doesn't care about anything but himself and his wealth. American soldiers being killed overseas, doesn't care. American people dying of disease, doesn't care.

If the Flim Flam Führer knew about the bounties, he condoned them.

If he didn't know, either it's because he was told and he didn't listen, or he wasn't told.

If he was told and didn't listen, he condoned the bounties.

If he wasn't told, he need to reprimand the people who didn't tell him.

This  worked wonders for Reagan ("plausible deniability" was key to Iran Contra).  Of course, Reagan was reasonably popular and starting to show signs of Alzheimer's, so was believable.

In this case, it is more a case of "standing orders, no bad news.  Especially no bad news about Russia". Certainly the public would believe it, but only because it reinforces the view of a toddler in chief.

EvilEgg: He knows now, when is he going to address the problem.

Exactly.  This story has been out for a few days and... crickets. No declaration that what the Russians did is an act of war.  No nothing.

If I had to guess the only action this White House has taken behind the scenes besides scrambling around looking for deniability would be for Trump to reach out to Russia AGAIN to tell them "hwy look we're really sorry about this but we have to do something mean because Americans are pissed that we let you kill our troops."  Don't stop loving me, okay?"

I remember when Kayleigh McEnany denied it I was thinking, "What a narrow denial." It wasn't categorical, it was very specific and sounded like the shiat my kids used to try and run on me when they were five. "I did all the homework I had for today.", Let's see if dad remembers I have a weeklong backlog.

Her denial cemented it in my mind that he knew.

He was told. He just didn't care. He probably even interrupted the person telling him to get out of the way so he could watch Morning Joe and get worked up (Trump needs a good pout to start the day).

The current distraction with the white power tweet is just his SOP, stir up enough shiat that no one can land a punch.

Just to unnecessarily add it in, but Richard Grenell is a huge piece of shiat. In other words, he is a perfect fit for this administration.

Clearly the president was briefed on this somehow, and did nothing either because it was in writing and he didnt read it, or it was oral and he ignored it.  Or he wasn't briefed because his people were afraid to bring it to him.  Each of those possibilities is incredibly damning.

The only response the white house could give that could possibly save face is that the president knew, but for very sensitive, top super duper secret reasons that cannot be divulged at this time, a policy decision was made not to act on it. There's some 10 dimensional chess stuff going on here, you see. We just cant show our hand at this time, thank you, next question.

No one would really believe it, but it's at  least a plausible explanation that would get the press to stop asking questions.  It's so simple and obviously the way to deal with this, so of course this idiot administration will spend the next week tripping over its dick with every other lie they can think of before settling on this sometime late next week. Morons.

this is what worries me. he has 100 things going at all times so that it is impossible to focus on one thing and it simply doesn't matter because the next thing is even more egregious. He's already done a hundred things that would have had any other president removed from office. And that's just the hundred we know about. Scott and AG in his pocket, he's got the scotus in his pocket, he's got the senate in his pocket. He has laid out a blueprint to destroy this country. People ten times smarter and more ruthless than him have paid attention. Biden better make some massive changes very quickly because if he doesn't the next Republican that comes in is going to turn this country upside down permanently.
