This is encouraging, but it means nothing.

It's not November yet.

Trump is going to have to be frogmarched out of the white house at gunpoint no matter what. So yeah go vote, but be ready for the worst.

Texas = +1

Yes.  That is until Fox News tells every right-winger here, in late October, that Democrats are going to roam the streets eating everyone's children while taking their guns.  That will get Jeb and Reba to fire up the hooptie and sputter down to the polling place.  They could replace the name "Trump" with "Satan" and they will still pull that leaver for "R".

Plus, the GOP is in charge here so there's a chance you're going to have multiple polling locations at boat ramps and honky-tonks serving free beer, fried catfish and BBQ but everyone in Third Ward and the greater area immediately South of it and 610 in Houston will have a single location at Uni. Houston. (U of H) Main campus, outside in the stadium parking lot and ran by single racist geriatric.

Also worth noting:

* NC's Democratic governor currently has a 21-point lead over his challenger
* Martha McSally's bid to keep her Senate seat is underwater by 15 points
* Gary Peters (D-MI) is favored by 18 points to hold his MI senate seat
* wtf: 67% of PA respondents have no opinion of their governor's handling of COVID
* Double wtf: In AZ, FL, PA, WI, MI, and NC, more than a third of respondents don't know if Biden's response to George Floyd would have been better than Trump's
* In those same six states, ~40% of Biden voters say they don't just oppose Trump, they actively support Biden

Oh my god, can we have one thread where we share a sense of hope with each other, or something?  Christ.

Yes, I know I need to vote.
Yes, I know polls don't matter.
No, I won't get complacent.

But, can we all, for one second, BE HAPPY ABOUT SOMETHING FOR ONCE?  I live in Texas and am thrilled there exists a poll where dump is trailing.  However fleeting or pointless that ends up being.  It made me happy this morning, in the midst of so much depressing shiat.

I'll take it.  I said I would sleep better when Biden was polling at least 3 times higher than the margin of error in battleground states and here we are.

It means Trump will be beaten.  The challenge is now is to defeat Trumpism by winning every f$cking race on the ticket. People can be confident but they should not be unafraid or apathetic, they need to soundly defeat the Republican party.

If it makes you happy great, but it doesn't help me at all.  I will not be happy about any poll of any kind other than the one on 3 November.

Democrats should treat this election as if they are 10 points down- because structural problems like the electoral college, voter suppression, foreign interference in social media, the media's slavish devotion to putting Trump on air constantly and Trump's utterly fanatical voting base means they basically are.  Democrats have to win overwhelmingly to win at all- if it's even remotely close, Trump wins.

Glockenspiel Hero: Democrats should treat this election as if they are 10 points down

Given bandwagon effects, I think acting like you're ten points up is probably better for turnout than acting like you're ten points down. People would rather join a successful movement than line up on the losing side of a blowout.

Good.

Let's keep it going up through November.

This makes me happy, but what would make me happiest is the complete and utter destruction of the Republican Party in its current form. Submerge it in a blue tsunami. Then turn the soil over. Then drop gasoline on it. Then light it on fire. Then drop salt so nothing can ever grow there again.

This and I'll add one more it of common stupidity:

"Polls mean nothing and are completely disconnected from the outcomes at the ballot booths, because they aren't always perfect, therefore the whopping gap between Hillary and Trump vs Biden and trump is nothing"

This is often paired with:
"Polls only sample thousands. My gut, which interacts with tens, tells the real story, so I don't believe the polls"

If Texas goes blue Republicans will be forced to remake their party (at least nationally). They couldn't survive as a party if Texas becomes purple.

Understanding that these polls mean nothing, really truly nothing, not one thing, nothing at all, absolutely zilch, zip, zero, nada, etc. doesn't conflict with being happy. Go ahead and be happy, but it's no different than being happy because you saw a beautiful sunrise this morning.  Neither has anything to do with the outcome of November's election.  In fact, even if it doesn't apply to you, there is a real risk of complacency if the polls show a strong lead, so it's more accurate to say that while the sunrise has no bearing on the election, consistently strong polling likely does.
