My mom met Dick Van Dyke 4 years ago, at a Bernie Sanders event (both of them are very old people who liked fellow old person Bernie). She was quite struck by what an extraordinarily polite, gentlemanly man he is, unlike many celebrities.

I always forget that most of the people famous in the 60s and 70s would have been about 20-30 then, so no older than my parents.

Then there's shirley temple and Olivia dehavilland

I saw Tony Bennett on tour with Lady Gaga a couple years ago. I wouldn't have assumed he's dead. Usually on these lists there should be people like Chubby Checkers who hasn't done anything of note since 1955

Olivia DeHavilland is still kickin' ... she'll be 104, next week.

Dick Van Dyke came by to visit the small VFX studio where I was working in 2003 (on the Sci-Fi Channel Children of Dune) and spent the entire day chatting with everyone on the crew, and told stories of his own career -- which he'd probably told thousands of times before, and since -- that kept everyone in the building laughing, all day.  He's a great, personable guy.  ^_^

Plenty old surely, but in the public eye enough that you'd hear about it if she died.  Not so much if they've been out of the limelight for 30-40 years.

Dick Van Dyke has a young wife with enormous bosoms who is like 1/3 his age. I'd stick around, too.

My favorite DVD story is when he got his second star on the Walk of Fame (for movie work). It was next to Stan Laurel's, who DVD became friends with early in his career. He noted it and for the occasion wore a bow tie Laurel had given to him. In the acceptance speech, he said it was like Laurel was standing in spirit at his right shoulder.
