It would be so great if Texas finally flips blue this election.  I really doubt it would happen, but oh, it would be so great if it did.

It's been polling consistently within the margin of error for the last two months. it'll probably still go to trump but it'll actually be competitive. which is VERY bad news for trump.

trump also hasn't lead in a poll in florida since early march. he has no realistic paths to victory without florida.

Almost all of them.  WA has the Seattle & Tacoma metro area, and Bellingham.  Pretty much the rest of the state is red, I think.

Correct. People forget how red blue states can be.

Also, I'm not going to say this in sports threads, but I'm mildly rooting for the Pats this year, because it would be such a laugh at Tom.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a lawsuit filed by the states that are being harmed to reveal why this specific reversal was done.

The only blue area in Illinois is Cook County (Chicago and surrounding suburbs). Once you leave the immediate Chicagoland area, the whole state is pretty red. It just so happens that almost 2/3-ish of the population resides in Cook Country.

I live in Seattle -- all blue. I have family in Bellingham -- purple leaning red. Jaysus, cousins, get it together. Everything east of the mountains is dark purple leaning toward Idaho red.

That's pretty much what I said. Eastern Washington is red, with a smattering of blue. So much red that it is beginning to look like Idaho. Maybe I didn't express that idea red-ly enough. Do you have any idea just how red Idaho is?

Fer cryin' out loud, man, I was trying to indicate there was some blue over there, like Spokane. So, lots of red plus some blue, to me indicates deep purple. Stop being a jerk, please.

Missouri has St. Louis (east edge) and Kansas City (west edge) with a little blue in Columbia (dead center) because of U. Of Missouri (Mizzou). Those three cities are all at the same approximate latitude and on the I-70 corridor. The rest of the state is full of republican-voting farmland.

Could the purpose be to manage which state is in disease chaos around election day so the turnout will be low?   That's really low and reminiscent of Obama's use of the weather machine.

The roommate and her bf went to Ricketts Glen State park in PA a couple weeks ago and they stopped for gas and the only people aside from them wearing masks at the gas station they stopped at was the guy at the counter. People looked at them like they were aliens and they did see a lot of anti mask and Trump signs.

Maryland is blue in the center and the far west and east are shades of red.

Exception Collection: Almost all of them.

This. There are just six states (WV, GA, IN, NC, K*, MS) whose top ten counties (i.e., the ones where the biggest cities would be) make up less than half their population. (VA technically could qualify for that list too, except that almost all their cities are independent, and account for about a third of their total population.) 26 states have more than half their population in their five biggest counties.

\of course, GA and KY have the 2nd & 3rd most counties
\\WV is the only one of those without a lot of counties or the VA thing

HerptheDerp: It would be so great if Texas finally flips blue this election.  I really doubt it would happen, but oh, it would be so great if it did.

I mean statistically Texas will not turn Blue this election. Not because they won't vote Biden, but because they will still overwhelmingly vote Red in everything down ballot. That being said, I want at least one statewide Blue and would really like to see Biden win it.

The important  thing about Texas getting competitive in a Presidential race is the defensive spending it causes the GOP to do. As it is, it would be one hell of an outlier case for Texas to be Blue without Biden already having 270 in other states. Not to mention getting some beachheads into the GOP domination of statewide office would be a big deal in terms of limiting how aggressively they get to fight both the federal government and the local governments.

If the GOP lost their ability to arbitrarily do voter suppression and other such things, it would be a big win in terms of making the state more competitive in the future.

Reading about Texas succumbing to uncontrolled viral infection really jogged my memory. I had a mental flashback to a few months ago. Maybe it was a news report I read, maybe it was a salsa commercial I watched, but I remembered a weird thing about New York.

But I tracked it down, what I was thinking of. A quote from April 17th.

Yep. I'll add AZ and NM.

I get the mindset...they live in the middle of nowhere and don't really need the government in their lives and they've been told that red is the party of less government.

Ah But they do, they do.

I have no issue with folks off the grid, living or dying as they see fit... But their kids? When they need help? Their seniors when they need to live where there's actually medicine.

Medicine, cities, roads, electricity.

Blue cities pay a terrible burden economically and politically,so a tiny few can live "free" on vast open unsustainable ranges, in tiny villages and settlements, but with access to everything city seekers dwellers earn at a fraction of the cost... Because the cities pay for them. And they are over represented in government by two or three times.

This is math, you understand it, I understand it.

What do we do next?

Educate. Who puts in and maintains the electric poles? Even if they run their own electric service, the electricity has to be delivered to them from somewhere.

My point was I understand how they'd be blind to how much of their life is provided by liberal society. It's not right and if liberals were as vindictive as these people think, they'd just stop delivering electricity. Cut the line just outside the city. That would show them. But no...us bleeding heart liberals won't do that.
