I'm sorry, I don't wish to live like a mudwasp.

I think this is similar to the tech they want to use for Mars Habitats.

If only Mars had paper & water that might be a great plan.

Cockroaches live in brick and glass buildings. Why are you picking on wasps?

People put up all manner of temporary structures to shelter in. Campgrounds are filled with homes made from various kinds of cloth, for example.

Or consider this from Ireland's great poet WB Yeats:

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;
Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.

[my emphasis]

A home made of papier-mache isn't necessarily consigned to the outer darkness. Or beyond the Pale, as they say in Ireland.

We shot a movie in a house like that beyond the building codes of Austin a few decades back.  It looked like a very long beached yellow whale.  It was made of insulating foam instead of papier mache.  There was one draw back.  It was too well insulated and a smoldering cigarette never quite went out in a niche in the wall.  Much of the wall melted. Too bad.

PVC pipe and spray foam, covered in sprayed concrete would make a very unique summer home.

I'm sure that papier mache house would be quite useful in a dessert downpour.

Or even a desert one.

Or with chocolate sauce.
