Ah, yes, Mississippi, the state whose declaration of secession pretty much shouts what "heritage" they're talking about:

I spent a lot of time working on warehouse automation for ASICS in beautiful Byhalia, MS.  They took down the MS state flag because it was "weathered" and didn't bother putting another one up.

But will they change their state motto? "Mississippi - don't you get uppity, boy"?

"In my mind, our flag should bear the Seal of the Great State of Mississippi and state 'In God We Trust,'" Hosemann said. " I am open to bringing all citizens together to determine a banner for our future."

Except for Atheists, right?  fark them!

Not a bad idea politically. No one is ever going to win an argument trying to get "In God We Trust" removed from something.

2020-06-26 3:09:58 PM
Mississippi can shorten their name to ISIS. The flag can be all black with a big white dot in the center to symbolize the people.

Book it. Done!

Fitch said Wednesday that adding "In God We Trust" to the state flag would "reflect the love, compassion and conviction of our people" and would be "the perfect way to demonstrate who we are to all."

It was true enough that black labor really did do better in and near the tropics. There is a grain of truth to Mississippi's racist rant...

But, it doesn't really give any rational why they couldn't just pay the black laborers and let them have citizenship and the rights that come with it.

2020-06-26 3:18:54 PM
"In God We Trust" is just a general call out to the Baptist/Methodist crowd throughout the state.

The truth of the matter is this - the only way you're going to remove the Confederate flag emblem in MS and elsewhere is to put something religion related on the flag, and in MS, being overly religious isn't a "white only"  thing. The black political structure in the state would gladly endorse it on the flag, if only to remove the Confederate emblem.

It's Mississippi. They're the bottom of the barrel for a reason. Was anyone really expecting anything remotely approaching reason and logic from these people? They still have segregated proms at some high schools. In fact, I remember reading an article about Morgan Freeman saying he'd pay for his old high school's senior prom, provided it was integrated, and he was shot down. Thankfully, not literally. This was in the last 20 years, I think, so hardly ancient history.

Their state flag will never change, not in my lifetime, maybe not in the lifetime of the next generation. Following Grant's victory in the Battle of Vicksburg, the city didn't celebrate the 4th of July until WWII. 80-something years later. These idiots know how to hold on to petty bullshiat.

2020-06-26 3:20:03 PM
In a rare move, I actually read the article.

WTF is subby talking about?

2020-06-26 3:20:53 PM
You'd think they'd have more important things to worry about than defending a traitorous flag.

Unless they think they're  waging a quiet biological war on Black people. If a bunch off poor white people die too, WHO KNEW?

I think the logic is that Mississippians will only trade one exclusionary tribal identifier that they like to rub in the faces of "others" for another exclusionary tribal identifier to rub in the faces of "others."

My big problem with this is the stated GOAL. Here' the fix

Obliterate the wall of separation between religion and the government's TREASURY.  (It's why they're always trying to put god's name on money.)

Here's another way to remember how to spell it!

A bus stops and two Italian men get on. They sit down and engage in an animated conversation. The lady sitting behind them ignores them at first, but her attention is galvanized when she hears one of the men say the following:
"Emma come first. Den I come. Den two asses come together. I come once-a-more.  Two asses, they come together again. I come again and pee twice. Then I come one lasta time."
"You foul-mouthed swine, " retorted the lady idignantly. "In this country we don't talk about our sex lives in public!"
"Hey, coola down lady," said the man. "Who talkin' abouta sexa? I'm a justa tellin' my frienda how to spella 'Mississippi.'

This.

As mentioned above it probably would get race-neutral support to add it even if it has C/S separation issues.

Either way, it would be a major step forward.

Beat me to it. Here's a rant of mine on the subject a few years ago, with pictures:

You almost gotta admire the sheer underhanded chutzpah of the Confederacy fellaters of Georgia. When their 1956 anti-Civil Rights flag came under attack for having the St. Andrew's Cross in it (as Mississippi's still does):

The protests grew, and in 2001 they made the Confederate flag just one of five mini-flags on a "History of Georgia"-themed flag, but in 2003 they removed the St. Andrew's Cross altogether in another redesign, and people cheered about them finally no longer honoring their Confederate "heritage" on their State Flag.

This is what they changed it to:

Yep. The First National Flag of the Confederate States of America. The only difference is the addition of the State Seal of Georgia inside the circle of thirteen stars (even though only eleven states seceded),
