Man, TrmpCo is like a fire department watching your house burn. When you ask them if they're going to put it out or save your kids, they turn to you and say "Don't worry, everything's fine", and point to your grand piano. "We saved that, you're good". Of course, the piano is missing a leg, and 90% of it is burned beyond any hope of repair, but they got it out of the house.

Now, the kids and the dog are a loss, but they've done their job and don't understand why you don't just go back inside and sit on your (currently burning) couch and relax.

I like the analogy, but it's more like Trump & Co. point to the grand piano they threw in from the neighbor's house and is now ablaze. "Why are you complaining? You got a piano out of the deal."

Testing is the most important thing we can do to slow down the viruses spread.

A spread that is exponential.

Even if we can ignore 80% of cases, and pretend they don't exist, and even if we can keep up that level of ignorance indefinitely...

We will wind up having more (known) cases in the coming months as a result of not testing versus finding about them now (and looking bad) and then using that information to slow this thing down.

There is an article on Fark's main page about Houston's ICU being at 100% capacity as well.

But I will go with terrifying.  Did you notice where overflow is being directed?

It was a picture a friend who lives in Dallas sent me.

While I don't expect trump himself has any coherent thoughts about the situation, I'm wondering if this isn't a final, failing strategy of the remaining republican 'leadership'. Pretend it's not a problem, and then if power changes hands in November, blame the ensuing crash on the Democrats. (And if they retain power, who cares about the crash; they still have power.)

Seems like the red-hat states are taking it too seriously though, and are accelerating the crash to the point it's gonna happen way before November. They're starting to understand it at the state level, but the feds are still lagging behind, afraid of getting trump-tweeted.

So I guess hospitals in Texas, Georgia and Arizona are approaching Italy levels of emergency. Just in time for Independence Day.

People not getting into ICU because there's no more room. Maybe beds sitting in hallways. Triage (meaning only the people they think are gonna make it are gonna get vents, not the ones that are circling the drain). etc.

Great jorb, Republicans.

And just like in northern Italy and New York, this is when the fatality rate soars as well. Between 30 and 50% of those who need hospitalization won't survive if they don't get it.

If you're unfortunate enough to find yourself in a state run by GOPers during this mess: Two of the most important things to help yourself in case you get it that are under your immediate control are Vitamin D and zinc intake. Deficiencies in both have been found to be strongly correlated with negative outcomes.

And ironically, this is part of why Spain and Italy were hit so hard: There, and in many more southern climes, there exists the belief that because it's sunny out, there's no need to fortify food with vitamin D. Which for a substantial number of people isn't true because they don't get enough sun exposure.

That, and start doing cardio. The stronger your lungs and the more excess capacity they have, the less likely you are to end up on a tube.

That's not even the worst part. The worst part is when you need to start triaging between "healthy" people. I.e. all are people who would've normally made it, but there simply isn't enough equipment to go around.

THAT is what gives doctors nightmares.

Is this person single? Not a candidate
Any underlying condition? Not a candidate.
Does this person have older kids who can make it on their own? Not a candidate.
Is this person poor? Etc.
