Urban legends like this when I was a kid.

Cool story, sis.

Police said a third teen who was on the bridge simply laid down on the tracks as the train rolled over -- and remarkably survived unharmed.

Pretty sure she lay down between the tracks.

English, motherf*cker.

No, she laid down between the rails. She was still on the tracks.

This sentence just strikes me as odd. The 15 year old's reaction was to get hit and lose her life. I mean, it happened, but I would not call it a reaction.

And move over to images tab of Google and you will see they are a lot of them and their nice places.

I learned how to play Backgammon in the back seat of a VW Beetle (a real Beetle) going to San Antonio.  Difficultly no air conditioning and it's a long ride from West Monroe, LA.  I thought it sounded like a fun road trip.  And I was correct.

The scariest bridge I've ever crossed was between West Monroe and Monroe LA.  It wasn't concrete or wood.  It was wire grating.  When cars came across it was just a hum of the tires and the bridge shaking.  I don't remember why we had to walk across it.  Wish I had asked mom before she passed.  This would have been in the late 60's.  There was a concrete bridge just right over there but we walked the old bridge for whatever reason.

How thin were these teens???
Ive walked the rails before and there is not much room between the wooden ties and the too of the rails.
Its not like trains are jacked up with mudder suspensions, they kinda low ride the rails.
Like its great this person wasn't minced but I think very few people have the frame to do it and survive like they do in the movies.

When I was a kid and people wanted to say something mean they said "Go take a long walk on a short pier."

But I was smarter than them.  I can swim and I told them to just go take a walk on a long railroad bridge.  I didn't tell them that it probably would be a short walk and they'd only make it halfway across.

Local?  My grandparents had a store at Smith & Washington in WM.  There is nothing much there now.  I spent every summer there growing up.

Actually I'll take that back.  You see that brick house next to the laundry mat?  My grandma paid $800 for it and had it moved from facing the river to there.  Now I'm going 60's here.  I went with her when she bought it.  She pulled out a little change purse thing out of her bra and put the money down.  Then to my grandad she said "Earl.  I want this house."  Done deal.  Geez I'm old.

I've lived a block away from double train tracks since I was 12, and used to walk them all the time. I learned very quickly that, well in advance of a train coming around the curve (sight-wise), the track rails start making a hissing sound. This gave plenty of advance warning to move off to either the other track, or to the side in the grass.

Btw, I think it was just last summer (might have been 2018 though; I can't remember right this sec), my friend was tripping on acid and used the tracks to come visit me at 1am.  I walked back to the tracks with him just for fun, and to kinda keep an eye on him, and about 1 minute after we reached the tracks, I heard the hissing. I hearded him back to me in the safe distance of the grass and weeds. As the train started to pass, we both freaked out because this particular train was carrying TANKS. Lots and lots of tanks; heading east to west through the capital of Minnesota in the middle of the night.
It certainly changed the course of his acid trip for a bit.

...I'm still kinda weirded out by this; especially given the current use of military-type units here, and the dozens of major cities which are westward of here.
