Big-box stores are fooling us into buying visually enhanced plants. Why do we fall for it?

Because you're stupid? Cactus blooms appear in the spring, when the weather is cooler, and rain might be a possibility.

Real flowers on cactuses (like these) have stems, don't grow straight from the top of the plant, and are usually pink in hue.

Yep, you're stupid. Pink, white, orange, yellow, red, purple, even mixtures of colors(think a pale purple that's almost white, same with a pale pink, rather than a brilliant pink). Cactus blooms come in plenty of colors other than pink.

I roll my eyes every time I see those stupid things. Didn't think anyone fell for those.

FTA:  Unlike the glued-on fakes, real flowers also grow on stems, not straight out of the plant.

Okay, these appear to be on a stem, but it's growing straight out of the plant.  Where else would it sprout?

Sorry about the shaow.  I'm tempted to put some 3-D glasses on to see if that helps.

I bought that plant 3 years ago and a few weeks back that thing just popped up straight out of the center of it. I never expected it to bloom and now I'm suddenly concerned about it's care.  I wanna see some flowers!

IIRC, this one (and it's twin) had dye added to artificially color them, but that's all worn off by now.  The twin looks exactly the same, but without the big stem in the middle.

In Germany we see this nonsense in the fall.  Spray painted heather.

What's even weirder is when you see a small barrel cactus grafted onto an upright one.

Last week, one my night-blooming cereus plants finally popped. It's a kind of Central-American cactus that blooms like once a year at dusk and the flower expires at dawn

I can't stand when they do that. I really hate the ones they paint and the grafted ones should go away too.

Here are a couple real flowers from this year. I've had lots of flowers this year and the little pink one is still making new ones since the beginning of April.

Here is real cactus flower.
They started as two little black nubs in the beginning of April and took about 3 weeks to mature.
They only lasted 3 days but were exquisite.
This shoot of the cactus is about 6 years old but the main stem of the plant has never flowered and it's around 10.

That's a nice succulent plant (some sort of aloe relative, I guess) you've got there but it's not a cactus.
Here's a few of mine though:
