Abramoff is just auditioning to be the new head of the SEC now that Jay Clayton is going to the DOJ.  He's Trump's kinda guy.

Yes.  I remember him.  Back when you could hold a Republican accountable for corruption and illegal activities.

It's like he's an habitual petty criminal that keeps getting busted for theft and B&E within 2 weeks of release. Because they lack any other life skills, they turn back to crime.

I would say this is a BOLD way to apply for a position at the Trump administration.
I would also say it's not really a prime time to do so.

But, this is the regular way to apply for a position at the Trump administration.
And it's never a prime time to do so.

I'm really not surprised that, of all things, he's getting busted for having run a crypto scheme.

I remember him because he killed my industry in the mid-2000s. Online gambling.

Crypto isn't a financial anything, it's unregulated illegal gambling (illegal in practice to the point that even the "unregulated" part sometimes fails to protect the people involved from the consequences of the "illegal" part, as we see in TFA).  Running a crypto scam is basically the same thing as conning people for their ATM details so you can empty out their accounts and play the ponies, it's not legitimate enough to be certified by anyone in the first place.

// Not that financial exchanges are actually useful, meaningful or economically productive in any real sense, but they are at least (poorly, but still) regulated, legal gambling so they've got that over crypto.

More importantly: how does anyone think, "Hey, Jack Abramoff is involved. It's totes legit and will make me money!"

The current Republican administration is so corrupt and damaging to the US with new bullsh*t every single week that it's easy to forget just how corrupt the last Republican administration was.
