I know there are a lot of cows in Wyoming, but DC is like the headquarters of manufacturing bullsh*t.

So Wyoming excels in two declining industries.

If you have such robust industries, why aren't you paying your fair share of taxes?

I sat here thinking, "Do they really not know what a state is?" and then I realized, no, they do.  They just need to find a lie to cling to so that they can prevent Black people in DC from voting.

2020-06-25 9:45:03 PM
I must have forgot that day in civics class where the U.S. Government only established states if they had mining and logging industries.

DC should trade brick for sheep and lumber, build many connected roads and grab a port.

2020-06-25 9:45:11 PM
Can he show me in the US Constitution where either of those are mentioned as requirements of statehood?

Fart_Machine: So Wyoming excels in two declining industries.

Hence why their economy is in the toilet.

2020-06-25 9:46:28 PM
Since we're making random ass requirements for statehood, let's decide that areas full of dumbasses don't get to be states anymore. Gotta get a collective IQ score before you can qualify.

2020-06-25 9:46:50 PM
In a perfect country, DC wouldn't be a state.

But people also wouldn't live there.

It should be a neutral location for our government business, period, with no kind of influence on its politics. But since it does have residents, and has no true representation for those residents, it should 100% be a state.

Don't worry, the ongoing gentrification of DC will make them very interested in this in about 10-20 years.

2020-06-25 9:47:18 PM
Whoa, his actual statement was so much more interesting. It was about class and occupation. That is so fascinating as an ideology.

Caring about the shiathole states is a full time job for Republicans. We already knew this.

He almost comes close to making a point that, while still stupid, at least makes some sense. Amazing how far downhill from there

I beg to differ. The bullshiat mines of Washington are legendary.

Other large cities don't need to be states because all the others are already in states.

Statehood for DC.

And PR

Yes, I'm sure nothing bad will happen after placing the entire federal government in the legal jurisdiction of a single state...

Yes, hard working DC residents pay $57,700 more in taxes per capita than residents of socialist welfare state Wyoming

Slice it down to bare bones geographically and restore the balance to Maryland and Virginia.  Something went wrong when it grew so large.

2020-06-25 9:57:41 PM
Ok, sure: let's means test the states we have then.  Let's set a minimum population.  How about requiring a net positive balance of federal payments?  Maybe educational attainments?

/By just about any measure, red is going to lose.

They like things the way they are - 2 white senators representing GOP states. Imagine their horror at a new state that is almost 50% black.

/Plus, they'd have to be able to count to 102.

//Seriously, why is DC not a State?

DC is way too small to be a state. It's one city that fills it from edge to edge. Might as well say that Brooklyn should be a state. Or Chigagoland.

If the residents want to be represented so much they should rejoin Maryland as District of Columbia County.

Or Virginia! Pick a side!

Puerto Rico is a sizeable island with millions of people in lots of cities and towns. It should be a state.

DC... No.

People not living there was only ever possible because of all the human beings that the founders didn't count as people. Buildings still need to be maintained, and services provided - and where services are provided and consumed, an economy grows and more people congregate.

And it won't be possible with robots because the nation is too large, too populated, and most importantly too fast to have a part time government. That archaic dream took its fatal wound from the telegraph.

The federal government can exist on parkland between Constitution Ave and Independence Ave between the Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial, plus the White House, and along the Potomac.  Let it be like Vatican City.

Are you unaware of the various federal government offices across the nation?

Though I'm curious what sort of horrible thing you think might happen.

\But it wouldnt be bad to de-centralize some things
\\ Maybe have Congress buildings in Chicago, Houston, Miami, San Francisco, and Seattle
\\\ Get rid of the 435 limit on the House and teleconference everything

Why would industry matter in the 21st century?  He's really saying DC would be a majority black state and we can't have that. If this was really going someplace, Trump would say it out loud tomorrow.
