Look pal, thanks solely to you, this event will be in the common history as the American virus.  The specialists in science may call it covid19, but just like the flu pandemic a century ago, the country that screws it the worst gets the name.

Spain didn't block the media while everyone else was, so it was commonly called the Spanish flu for a hundred years.

If you're real lucky, maybe the rest of the world will start calling it Trump's hoax.

I've been calling it the TrumpFiredThePandemicResponseTeamAndGotPeopleKilledVirus.

Whatever floats your boat though.

If china is bad for hiding numbers, why are you hiding numbers? It makes it seem like John Bolton is correct and you are in cahoots with China.

People don't die from COVID-19 instantly, or even within 48 hours.

The increase in infections in the past five days shouldn't be expected to have a correlation in deaths on those same days, but a week or two later, as medical treatment fails for infected individuals.

2020-06-25 1:08:27 PM
Is he talking about the testing he can't decide he likes or not?

Asshole still doesn't understand that regardless of rates or percentages, the bottom line is that our response has been horrible because our policy and our leadership likes to pretend it doesn't exist.

Ay-yup! First hospitalizations will tick up, then ICU admissions, then deaths.

Back to the headline, Trump has completely lost the college educated white women and is on the verge of losing the rest. The solution isn't more racism. People want to be able to get back to their lives, and this will require actual leadership. Trump would have to listen to the experts and tacitly admit that he was wrong about this going away on its own. Since there is zero chance of that, the voters aren't going to be coming back to him.

2020-06-25 1:12:15 PM
No. The number of trump virus cases is going way up because people have been stupid and not taking necessary precautions to prevent its spread, largely cause by terrible leadership that has made claims like "It's going to just go away" or public policies encouraging mask use represent "a culture of silence, slavery, and social death."

Testing has improved markedly over the past two months, which is a good thing (ignoring just how terribly inadequate it was prior to that, mostly due to presidential ineptitude). Of course, some complete idiot has suggested we "slow down testing" due to the apparent embarrassingly moronic view that tests cause illness.

The mortality rate has been dropping - that is definitely a good thing, and expected. It is largely due to the fact that testing was so scarce early on (only people presenting serious symptoms or those directly interacting with such cases were tested), but has been helped as resources (finally) became available to hospitals.

The news has been reporting the facts, and the fact is the absolute worst person to be in the white house when the trump virus struck was...trump.  We'd have been better off with that empty chair Clint Eastwood yelled at years back...

NeoCortex42: Just ignore the hospitalization and death numbers.

The amazing thing is the astounding lie we're being told about hospitalization and death numbers.

Every reliably reporting (for the most part, "European" if you're picking one that has lots of cases) country shows roughly what you'd expect: The new case and fatality curves basically look the same, because the case fatality rate hasn't changed.

Except in the US... Here somehow we now have more cases/day than ever before (without ever seriously decreasing the rate), yet the alleged case fatality rate has dropped over 2/3 from its peak. Sure, Jan...

2020-06-25 1:13:37 PM
Deflecting blame is really all he has.

His entire strategy on the virus is now "Be angry at foreigners and don't talk about how we colossally farked up."

Which is his entire strategy on a lot of things, really.

Poor Trump. Covid-19 doesn't give a shiat about what he tweets.  The virus can't be insulted, it can't be bullied, and it won't believe Trump's typical word salads of stupidity.

Trump has no tools in his insanely limited tool box to deal with something like this.

I've been saying this from the start. Trump Flu is the proper name.

2020-06-25 1:22:49 PM
Here's some facts.
The surge in infections is, currently, biased towards younger people who were going stir crazy and have run back out to bars. They are not getting as sick as the typical patient did before.

They will bring their infections home to family and friends, and otherwise spread it through the community just because of the large numbers. That will include both older people and people with underlying health concerns that make them more vulnerable. So people who had remained cautious will nevertheless become infected as a secondary consequence of those who were reckless.

We are getting better at treating those who are infected and become hospitalized. This should push down the death rate but people will still die and suffer serious complications.

We are getting smarter about protecting the elderly in long term care facilities. That should also reduce the death rate.

But we're still killing people who don't need to die. And the blood is on his tiny little hands.
