Today I learned that monuments to racist traitors mean more to trump than black lives.

When Trump actually teaches me anything (other than a master's class in hate and demagogeury)--then knowledge will come from a truely unusual source.

Knowledge comes from the most unusual of places!

We get it.. You don't always have to tell everyone every time you speak that you graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Rectal Extraction Institute.

Every statue that is torn down should be immediately replaced with the Trump statue.

He's been introduced to them. He just doesn't get the technology. "Words? On pages? Many times without PICTURES?! BLASPHEMY!"

Someone made a good comment which I'm stealing and passing off as my own:

Imagine you were a German Jew.  Your family (well, some of them) survived the holocaust. When you walk down the street, you pass by statues of Hitler and other Nazis, and you see people driving down the street with Nazi flags flying on their vehicles, claiming it's their "heritage."

Are you happy to see history remembered in these ways?

Despite the Godwin, it's an apt analogy.

There is certainly a need to remember the past. Statues in museums, at battlefields, or in war cemeteries are all quite appropriate. Statues in public places honoring people who thought slavery was so important they were willing to betray their country and go to war to preserve it is NOT one of them.

Acid wash high-waters don't have a statue, and after a few more decades, they might mercifully be forgotten.

He's right.  Look what has happened without statues commemorating Hitler ... we went and elected our own version.

2020-06-25 9:50:35 AM
So where are our public statues of King George? The Kaiser? Stalin and Kruschev? Hitler and Tojo? They're part of our history. How come they don't get public statues?

Statues are a great way to remind people which part of History you like the most, like the Confederate statues all miraculously constructed in the 1920s by KKK groups. That wasn't about history or Heritage, that was about reminding black people who was in charge in those areas.

You want history, go to a museum or go to college.

indiscriminately ripping down our statues and monuments to the past

"Indiscriminately"--I don't think that word means what you think it does...but I'm not a Wharton grad.

Also: They're not 'our' statues.  Someone put them up because they wanted us to believe that they were 'ours'.  That it was our idea.  That without them we'd forget an entire generation of racist traitors.

That is a great statue. It's a great example of a sh*try statue. And if something like that doesn't exist as a bad example, then how are we to know what sh*t statues look like?

No, it's apt. Germany goes a little far in suppressing the Nazi shiat according to our values but they don't have a first amendment. But they sure as shiat don't have statues of Hitler or the German version of rednecks waving the swastika and putting it on the roof of their cars.

Knowledge comes from the most unusual of places!

But never from the Trump White House.

2020-06-25 10:06:45 AM
Heritage is a trigger word. Trumpers hear "heritage" and immediately associate with "Southern Heritage" and the associated strong feelings of racism and rebellion. So the tweet is successful as it triggered his base.

Have you been hearing the words "clean election" recently?  This is a new trigger phrase. You oppose mail-in ballots as you want to have a 'clean election'. "Clean" is associated with "white" and so you oppose mail-in ballots as you want to keep the election 'white.'

Trigger words. It's a subtle manipulation, but it appears to have worked. How else would Trumpers actually think a rich Yankee from NYC who let his daughter marry a Jew is one of them?

2020-06-25 10:07:20 AM
Well, perhaps if at some point in the past placards had been added to the statues that actually contextualized their deeds, maybe you could actually make the "history/heritage, warts and all" - but America never has, so ain't nobody buyin' that bulls***, now.

Remember all those great "New YORk CITY" jokes when ole Hank Hill was the stereotype for rural and redneck conservatives in the USA? I'm not one for peddling tropes, but that one rang true - at least back then. It's probably still true save for one exception, cuz racism.😅

I've been to Dachau.  There's no statue of the Camp Commandant gallantly charging into battle astride a warhorse with a suspiciously vague inscription of what he did during the war beneath him.

How is any of this celebrating his heritage? He's from Queens! If he wants a statue celebrating his heritage, he can ask de Blasio to put up a statue of pizza rats in honor of all the rats in his dad's disgusting apartment buildings.
