Most of the time, I think the Internet sucks.  It's responsible for so much of what is wrong with our society.  Then sometimes, like this, I think, "OK Internet.  I'll give you another try."

As awesome as this is (& it really is), without some legislation with teeth in it to prevent the police from doing so, they're just going to hide their nametags/badge #s even more, freeing them from personal consequences when they go overboard with civil rights violations/beatings.

Society was proper farked well before the internet. That perception is entirely based on the fact that the abuses and problems were out of sight and out of mind.

There is no Golden Age to return to.

Jokes on the protestors, those cops just left to bump their numbers by punching a black infant or something. Gotta stay competitive with the other officers else they might think you're weak and not pulling/crushing your weight.

I don't see any evidence in these tweets that the cops actually walked away.

/Had a clever comment ready and everything based on that fact.

Unfortunately, we can be a very dark species.

Social media, if they've got pictures of themselves on Facebook/Instagram associated with their names then that's a straightforward search especially if you limit it to people that ID as police on social media.

Yep, it is hard on cops, all this gearing up and having to stand around for hours at protest. They can't spend half the day hiding behind the Walmart in their patrol car eating donuts or extorting a BJ from a local working girl they like to shake down on the regular. It is all way more work than they signed up for.

What relevance does that have if breaking the rules doesn't lead to any consequences for LEO's?

Why not indeed?  They are public servants, but they operate in secret with no accountability.  The power the courts and politicians protect them from consequences of their criminal actions.  This information must be published.  Why should they be able to hide this.  The people are in control, not the police.

Indeed.

I'd be fine with cops wearing something like this:

Easily readable from a distance, badge number in letters a foot tall. It would be trivial to color-code departments so no departments that border each other would have different colors.

I don't think banning the cops from ALL CPS schools is the right move.  Some?  Definitely.  Most?  Probably.  All?  Nope.  There are some pretty f*cking bad areas of Chicago that merit a cop on the school premises to protect the students.

Because who enforces the rules now? You think adding "...penalty for breaking these rules is twenty dickpunches" will suddenly make enforcement happen?

CPD already has rules (to be enforced by leadership), they have a citizen review board (for independent enforcement of rules), and they have courts and stuff (for everything else). How's all that working now? Lots of cops seeing consequences for their actions?

It's not about what the rules are. It's about a culture that says cops don't have to follow rules in the first place, and the protections they get from the people whose job it is to enforce the rules on the cops (other cops and DAs).

// something something enforce the laws we already have before writing new ones

Well just as soon as the cops prove we can trust them to not do things like arrest kids for acting up in class and bodyslam kids for not respectin authoritah, we'd be happy to have them back in schools.
