Sen. Kevin Cramer

I read that as "Craven Kemer" at first, and it fit better.

But nobody has been harder on China than Trump!

Dear Senator Cramer, I gave a friend and supporter of yours a huge no-bid contract to help build my wall.  You owe me this one.  Signed, Donald Trump

And why is Trump protecting China all of a sudden?

Straight ticket, folks. This year you gotta vote straight ticket and get as many of these craven lickspittles out of office as possible. From the bottom to the top, the Republicans gotta go.

edmo: Spineless.

Possibly they paid him off (did anyone check if Ivanka got more trademarks?).

But there are two other obvious reasons:

First, this is for China violently suppressing protests and imposing iron fisted rule in the face of democracy  That is something Trump very much supports.

Second, Congress doing something takes power from him and could get Democrats some credit. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he blocked it simply to exercise power over Congress.

One spine in the whole lot, Romney.

What kind of a sad sack are you when Romney is the sterling example of stalwart courage in the group.

What a sad statement about how our politics work. This guy co-sponsors the bill, then blocks it so changes can be made, then says he hadn't seen it, and further says he won't know how the changes will affect it because he hadn't seen it. I can't help but wonder what other things he's sponsored while having no idea what's in them.

Usually the lobbyists are safe just giving the bill a sexy title and the senator a PAC donation.

Everything. Legislators in the democracies no longer write legislation. They get bills pre-written from lobbyists.

It's more than just this election, though. The GOP won't stop pulling this bullshiat until they are destroyed. Until the GOP is completely demolished nationwide, the rubble burned to ashes, and those ashes launched into the sun, voting straight ticket Democratic is the only option. If it's a partisan race, vote for the Democrat. If it's a nonpartisan race, find out the partisan affiliation of the candidates and vote for the Democrats. The place to vote your heart is the primary. There is no place for principled stands in the general election. So long as Republicans exist, they must be opposed, by any means necessary. Your principles mean absolutely dick if they allow evil to gain victories over n"good enough." Occupying the moral high ground is only useful if the enemy seeks to contest that territory. The territory the GOP is occupying is antipodal to the moral high ground, so unsavory things must be done to defeat them. This includes voting for an incrementalist general election candidate, if that's the candidate who wins the Democratic primary. It means being okay with our candidates getting financial support that we would rather ban. The GOP is the greatest existential threat that the United States of America has ever faced. Until that threat is neutralized, every tactic and strategy for fighting them should be on the table, including strategic voting.

Trump is bi (tri? quad?) polar on China.

He tells people we are making big money off of them with tariffs (that's not how tariffs work).

He hosts Xi at Mar-A-Lago, swooning all over them. (I don't think Xi was much impressed).

He racially ridicules them to throw his barely constrained mobs red meat.

He (as we know know) begs Xi to help him win in 2020 by supporting Xi locking up (and by extension likely creating mass graves for) Muslims in camps. (Trump would support that no matter what).

Xi smells blood in the water. He's playin' fark around with a 3rd rate lame duck maniacal POTUS for kicks.

Kim Jong Un gave him the playbook.

He wants China to start buying as much stuff as possible from the US to prop up the economy, especially in farm states that are getting the Chuck Tingle treatment from Chinese counter-tariffs.  He stepped on his own dick with the initial tariffs and now he's desperately trying to backpedal without it seeming like he's backed down. Throwing Hong Kong under the bus is probably the best way to suck up to Xi short of reversing his tariff decisions.

The only payoff he cares about right now is his election prospects. Anyone who can promise an improvement in that can get pretty much anything they want from him as long as it doesn't mean doing something that he thinks looks weak.

Yup. And both he and Ernst are gonna pay for it in Iowa. Farm bankruptcies doubled last year here.

The US off 1/2 of our exports to China since 2017, and China didn't give two shiats. They didn't quit buying 1/2 as much, bet on that. Remember, who was gonna pay for those tariffs?

Add to that, Trump pimps coal and oil and is leaving acres and acres of corn standing and companies like Dupont are walking away brand new ethanol plants, which get sold to foreign investors and then converted to natural gas. (Nevada, Ia.)

Yeah, farmers ain't happy. Some back him... . but the hurt is gonna get worse this summer and fall for them. A lot of them aren't gonna make it. And there ain't no help comin' this way that I can see. For or from Trump and Phoni Joni.

Many of them. He's one of my senators and I've followed his career ever since he was a rubber stamp for the energy industry during his time on the ND Public Service Commission. When he was originally voted in as U.S. Representative he did some town halls. I attended one, where he spent the entirety of the time saying that he was going to obstruct Obama and his "radical agenda." Not, you know, approach things in an objective, reasonable way and work toward compromise that allowed everyone to move forward, or to respond with better legislation.

Cramer is a joke and more people in the state are becoming aware of that.

Your comment is on-topic for Cramer. There was a story that of course remains unconfirmed but had enough legs to get it from Washington DC to Bismarck. That story was when the Trump Transition team was meeting with individuals to select the first cabinet heads, Cramer went to go see if he could get a job, either as Secretary of Ag or Energy. The story follows that as he was waiting outside Trump's office, good old Steve Bannon comes by and tosses Cramer a pair of knee pads.
