Why would he resign?  There is zero consequence for him not resigning.  The Senate GOP have made it clear that any and all conduct by Republicans is acceptable.

A strongly worded tweet. We've got him now. Expect Barr to resign by morning.

So here's the real question... How do we stop this from happening again?

How do we install a safeguard somewhere that prevents this combination of corrupt president-corrupt attorney general-corrupt senate majority leader-corrupt judges?

Our entire process needs a UV light wand shoved up its rectum to sterilize it.

2020-06-23 10:55:48 PM
While this is going on, Republicans are tooting their dog whistles about law and order, "look at them demonstrators in the street! Our country is going to straight to hell."

2020-06-23 11:51:17 PM
So?

Nothing will happen.

Also, "American principle"?

LOL

That ship sailed along time ago buddy.

Shine a light on him and his actions. Drag him in front of the House and impeach his ass. Make it clear that he will face criminal charges once Trump is out of office and see if he decides to sing. Worse case scenario is that the public will learn more about the corruption in the Trump administration and the GOP. Make Susan Collins look like an idiot again.

Probably as meaningful as this.

Either Zero out the AG's budget or impeach the AG (or even better, both), anything else is a half measure. Take off the kid gloves and punch them back.

Barr has done more to turn us into a dictatorship than Trump has.

I'm pretty sure zeroing out the AG's budget would affect next year's AG, who god willing won't be Barr.

Agreed.  But how does it play out?  House zeroes out the AG in their budget, Senate refuses to pass it, we have gov't shutdown?  Or Senate passes it on razor thin margin, Trump vetoes it, gov't shutdown.  And that's if dems stick to their guns, which is not at all a given especially that they're currently loath to upset the apple cart of Biden's current lead.  Am I missing something?

Inherent Contempt has always been the only real answer.
"Here's a coat closet and a chair.  We'll slide you a ham sandwich if we remember.  One you answer your subpoena you can leave." *Click*

Barr should rather perjure himself than spend more than 48 hours defying the House alone in a closet.

A simple question should be asked of every lawyer: why is barr a lawyer, you f*cking filth?
Clearly, barr is the perfect example of all lawyers: traitors, liars, garbage, defenders of rapists.

There's a never ending supply of cowards who don't want to take action. No latter how much we lose, how many people die, they'll come back thread after thread telling you it can't be done.

Their cowardice gives the giant [whatever the pc term is for pussies] in congress cover to do nothing but tweet weak-ass shiat like this.

It's a party full of Neville Chamberlains cheering on peace in our time like it's 1938 and not 1943. Completely worthless and delusional.

How do you propose getting Barr into the coat closet?

2020-06-24 12:49:59 AM
"Barr's conduct is disgraceful. He should resign."

Golly, with language as strong as that, I'm sure Mr. Barr will begin to seriously consider his actions and perhaps start thinking of maybe tendering his resignation some time within the next few months.

2020-06-24 12:53:00 AM
The fact is, with a totally corrupt Republican Senate, Trump and Barr have the Democrats in a complete headlock until Biden assumes power in January (assuming Biden wins in a clear enough landslide that even Barr can't rig the results).

There are no effective tools to eject Barr until then.

2020-06-24 12:53:54 AM
I don't doubt that he minds. What I wonder is whether he'll do something about it.

"Mr. Barr, why did your father hire Jeffrey Epstein who didn't have a degree much less a teaching certificate to teach at his school before getting fired for farking minors? Also, didn't that dude hang out with your boss and die in your jail cell?"

Nothing can be done. The court of public opinion doesn't exist

As a representative democracy we collectively elect people who care.  The Republican party has clearly demonstrated that it doesn't care about those pesky law things.  VOTE.

The key to getting this right is an awareness that any checks and balances introduced must be robust against attempts to weaponize them against political opponents. This is what happened with the Independent Counsel law abused by Ken Starr in pursuit of Clinton, which is why it was allowed to expire. There must be checks on the checks, balances on the balances. Republicans have proven time and again that when they are not in power they will use any and all means to bring the functions of government to a halt, and when they are in power they will do everything possible to subvert checks on their own power.

But it would definitely do the trick.

The safeguard is literally the second amendment. We gear up and kill those government officials that commit treason.

I'm not advocating for it. I'm simply stating that this is exactly what you do. It's why the second amendment was put in place. Do I want it to happen? No. Should it happen? Also no. But it's your most effective option and technically the constitution would be on your side.

Times like this are not meant for moral relativism.  Justice is being raped at the DOJ and the Republican senators are heading to the snack bar to order popcorn.  Resigning from the case or from DOJ altogether is absolutely the right thing to do.  It sends a message that justice is not being done, that people of moral courage should be outraged, and an investigation is warranted.  When this DOJ goes down in history as a symbol of abject corruption, he can hold his head high.  There's plenty of work out there for someone like him.

This kind of argument irritates me.  It's like my oldest kid spouting these stupid conspiracy junkie things.

"Only an idiot would think we actually landed on the moon!  What???  I'm just asking questions..."  (He failed astronomy twice)
"It's obvious that antifa is trying to destroy our country.  the only recourse we have is buying guns and fighting back!!!  What?  I'm not advocating violence..." (Yes you are)

It's all variants of "I'm not advocating the things I'm advocating for, but I'm totally not because I followed it up with "I'm just sayin..."

We can do better than this.

Move ALL the statues to museums.  Replace with guillotines.  Hire someone to maintain and test them daily, especially right around the start of the work day, lunch, and quitting time.
