A year after this sign went up, the monument was removed.  For whatever reason, the dedicated students of history didn't fight for the monument after this sign went up next to it.

Keep the pedestals empty, but add a new plaque to them, reading something to the extent as follows:

"A Statue of [whatever confederate figure] once stood here, placed here by sponsorship of the U.D.o.C. in  [whenever] for the purpose of intimidating Black Americans out of exercising their hard won rights as full citizens and human beings. It was removed in 2020 by demand of the public, following over a century of violent repression, including the murder of [very long list of names, but for reasonable brevity just those who died within the prior year] at the hands of police officers."

My concern is that a bunch of stupid kids will come out of this with a criminal record that will haunt some of them all their lives.
