I haven't watched racing in a long time. When did they stop actually driving their cars?

I was floored. And the best part, anybody driving up and an RV with a rebel flag on it had to Park and stay outside.

I don't know the faintest thing about car racing, but that had me near tears.

They're training for the Flintstones Racing League.

Never have so many sports and news outlets reported so extensively on NASCAR and never have so many sports and news outlets failed to report on the actual race including who won.

And it was beautiful.

It'd be nice to see all the drivers, after the next racist bullshiat (and there will be more, because people suck) start the race... then enter the pits, turn off the cars, and watch him run to the checkered flag.

No. I'm sure not.  Excellent point.  But I didn't mean that as "because that gives him a win," though I can certainly see that's how it appeared.  I meant it more as, "fark y'all, we're allllll behind him." If _he_ protests, it doesn't send a message.  If they all protest on his behalf -- even better, without telling him -- that sends a message.

But how else to send a message clearly and unequivocally?

Maybe all the sponsors agree to have one race where all the cars are done in his livery?

I'm almost 99% certain whoever did it was already caught and ejected from NASCAR, but they likely won't say who.

Well, considering the symbolism of the noose; there are federal hate crime laws that almost certainly come into play here.

The fact that this sort of thing is happening, and I saw Blue Shield(!) "Enough is Enough" commercial, as well as all the other companies and corporations stepping up about Black lives gives me hope for the future.

I've never seen in 59 years this level of support from the general public AND corporations like this, as well as sports, entertainment, hell, pretty much every area of life.

It must drive racists mad. Good.

I'm know plenty of NASCAR fans who aren't jerks. It's a sterotype that seems to be rapidly changing. I know some of them have been forced into it, but the sport seems to be coming around. Or they're trying. Trying is good enough for me.

Being a NASCAR jerk fan is one thing (e.g. being completely ignorant of other motorsports), but being a racist is another. No one can be "forced into" not being a racist... shedding that moral structure takes a genuine epiphany. As for the "sterotype"(sic) is not changing in any way.  See https://www.espn.com/racing/nascar/story/_/id/29344050/nascar-sees-confederate-flags-fly-talladega-superspeedway https://www.startribune.com/nascar-racing-at-talladega-postponed-but-confederate-flags-show-up/571413162/ https://www.cnn.com/videos/us/2020/06/21/nascar-talladega-confederate-flag-ban-scholes-nr-sot-vpx.cnn

I suspect the racist was a local working security or parking duty. Not a member of a team. I also suspect that they covered their head with a hoodie when they hung the noose, in case of cameras.

I'm an old fark. Hate selfies. That pic is awesome. Hats off to everyone watching Bubba's back.

If NASCAR sincerely and thoroughly carries out its anti-racism campaign, I might reward the local speedway with my presence one afternoon, just as a "thank you" gesture.

Heck, I might even go when cars are racing.

I don't know if it came across as snarky by just posting a google search result, that wasn't my intention. I was going to find an article but google made a nice little table with the results so I went with that instead

The invocation at my local speedway on Saturday was the exact opposite of what NASCAR's invocation was yesterday.  I've never whispered, "Fark you," during a prayer before, but it came out Saturday.  I then joined my five year old daughter in sitting during the anthem, as she'd done the week before.  Not sure why she's doing it.

Is your local NASCAR sanctioned?  If so were they enforcing (or needing to enforce) the ban?

No it's not.  But hearing somebody talking about symbols being removed in a prayer was enraging to me, and I am a Christian.  It was a lot like that duck hunter at Texas four years ago.

Absolutely.  I was unclear.  It's not that I was suggesting giving him the win -- that wasn't the intent -- rather, the rest of the teams showing their own supporters that they support him by withdrawing. I might have made my point better by describing it with him winding up alone, a good "wait, where'd everybody go?" moment, then pulling in himself, and abandoning the race entirely.

Or maybe instead of the follow-up "everyone races in his livery," maybe it'd be more compelling to race every car in their own designs, but with his number?  For the rest of the season?

Something like that.  Some way to show the POS (deplorable, even) racist "fans" that not only is their opinion offensive garbage, but also _everyone_ thinks they can fark right off. The difficulty is that anything less than every team, every driver showing complete solidarity will give a toehold for the PsOS to say, "well, that right there is now MY driver!" or "see! It's all political / for sponsors / whatever! I still support [ person ] cuz they were just made to do it."

I for one can't think of a better outcome. I'm glad that the other drivers and their pit crews showed so much love and support for their friend. The fact that it turned out to be a misunderstanding and not an act of hate makes it that much better.

Hot take : Most discoveries of "nooses," are  hoaxes or not nooses at all or Halloween decorations done with poor judgement.
