That's not inconsistent with the general populist right-wing message being broadcast around the globe right now. The subtext is that Trump, Johnson, Bolsonaro or whomever will fix the massive injustices caused by big government, the (((bankers))) or the Illuminati.

Which is why we, whether Brits, Americans or anyone from any other nation that has a history of liberal democracy, need to invest in education. So we can prevent asshats like this from being seen as credible in any way.

Because Trump is a man of the people, a regular working Joe:

Somebody two days ago said, "Sir, the elite are really working hard on trying to destroy you." I said, "Yeah, why do you call them the elite," I said, "why?" "Well, they're not elite." Prove to me that Trump is actually in the 1% first.  You got any evidence of his income or net worth?  Like some recent tax returns?

/F*ck both, just pointing out that the interests of Trump and the 1% are not perfectly aligned and that he might not even qualify as 1%.

But he's so desperate to imagine that he's one of them that he'll do whatever he can to try and gain their favour.

There's been a documentary strand going on on BBC2 over the past couple of weeks about Monaco. To reside their, you need to have a bank account with at least €500,000. Some of the biggest issues residents there face, apparently, is about the length of their yachts.

The most recent episode of that show that I saw was about Prince Albert trying to attract Insta influencers, since that's where the money is, these days. People who are kind of gauche, because they wear their wealth on their sleeves. Multi-coloured Lambos and so on.

The documentary strand itself is kind of obnoxious, because it shows how distant the uber-wealthy are from normal people, but at the same time, it shows a level of luxury that a coont like Trump can never achieve.

The interests of the 1% aren't perfectly aligned. The people whose wealth comes from oil, MLM, or agribusiness, for instance, want different policies from those whose wealth comes from tech.

Trump wants the stock market to do well because he wants to make back all the money he's lost.

There is no viable "far Left" in the United States.  If there were I'd be donating money to it, going to its meetings, and working to promote its policies.

The far Left is a boogie man the GOP rolls out every national election cycle.  See "Obama is going to grab all our guns" as one shining example.

Populism is populism - it knows no "side" in politics, other than that "the people" are good and some shadowy "they" is pulling the strings and inhibiting democracy.

What's interesting about this is that Right populism has no answer for the Wall Street question posed in Mr Garrison's cartoon. If anything, their solution is to give even more power to big banks and corporations, such is their hatred of government. It's like "Wall Street is bad, but I'll defend to the death your right to loot us."

By virtue of the salary of the US president alone, he would effectively be at or near the top 1% for income.
The US president makes $400k per year with additional allowances.
The top 1% of income is considered to start somewhere between $420k and $488k.

Wealth is a different issue.

It's been said by others that Ben Garrison does have great technical skills as an artist, but his message is so insane and lacks all subtlety that it's easy to overlook the fact that his drawings are actually pretty good. He's like a pianist that has no problem playing Bach, but when he tries to compose a symphony of his own, it's just a bunch of chaotic noise.
