Can I just say that I absolutely can't stand the Hill website on a phone.

The way the video follows you down as you read, unless you hit the "x", but the "x" is so small and so far off the the side that my fat thumb can't hit it. I try - tap tap tap. But sooner or later, rather than hitting the "x", I end up starting the goddam video that I have no intention of watching, then end up trying to at least mute it.

Maybe I'm the only one, but goddam I hate the Hill on my phone.

AOC's opponent used to be a Republican, and is funded by Wall Street. She also used to live in Trump Tower. These facts are easy enough to verify. She even wrote a book about trickle down economics:

Looks like that attempt to denigrate her with an old college video dancing was about the stupidest decision her opponents could've made.  She gave us all a reason to personally like her without having ever even met her.

That explains why it is that the right is trying to paint AOC as the sole motivator for all those TikTok teens buying up tickets to Trump's rally.  They are even trying to make it look like she was courting foreign assistance in influencing the election, since TikTok is a Chinese company.

I think AOC proved that folks in safe seats 100% need to worry about their primary. The powers that be know there's no way on earth they're going to replace her in the main election so are spending millions to get a Republican nominated to the Democratic ticket. Any republican voters in the district know what's up and will be voting in the D primary, and turnout in primaries can be low, especially if folks take things for granted.

The majority of Americans are not wealthy, white males who adhere to the boring 1950's conservative views of how one should behave. It's interesting that all the new "firebrand" politicians who are willing to stand up to outdated societal norms and fight to represent the rest of us all seem to be women. They also seem to have actual plans on how to fix the country's domestic problems despite being a gender that is derided for being too soft and emotional to be in charge. It's ironically disgusting how women are good enough to raise boys up until they turn eighteen and then we're expected to hand over the reins because "men know better".

/AOC. Pressley, Porter, etc., are some of the few politicians that give me an iota of hope for the future

Yes we are. In his first public performance since the pandemic began, with unemployment through the roof, a stacking body count, a wavering stonk market, and a government printing money like it never has before, our POTUS's message to the people was "watch me drink water" and "Ooga booga socialism, vote for me."

Oh and also, "slow down the testing."

Yes, we are irreparably broken.

The NY Dem primaries are going to be a mess.

over in NY12, Maloney (incumbent) has been endorsed by Sunrise Movement and Pramila Jayapal while facing three others challenging her from the left.

NY15 has 12 candidates running for an open seat. One (Diaz) is an anti-choice homophobe that campaigned for Ted Cruz, and he has a good shot at winning as he was previously a state senator and city councilman for part of the district. Blake has picked up most of the elected official endorsements (mostly CBC), Lopez has Bernie and AOC, and Torres raised more money than all of them combined.

NY16 is Engel vs Bowman and two others

NY17 is an 8 candidate pile up in an open seat. Mondaire Jones is ahead in polling, but only by 9 with 24% undecided. Schleifer is a trust funder who has spent $4m of his own money so far, Carlucci is an ex-IDC turncoat state senator that got primaried out in 2018 but somehow got a bunch of union endorsements. Members of congress have stayed away from making endorsements in this race for some reason except for Warren and Pressley endorsing Jones.

Republicans definitely are that broken.

1. Medicare for All: opposed because people who don't pay for/deserve medical care will be included (in reality, the objection is that black/Hispanic/gay/female people will get covered, remember: republicans only care about hurting people they hate even at their own expense). Their problem is with the "All".

2. Housing as a Human Right: opposed because people who don't pay for/deserve housing will be included (in reality, the objection is that black/Hispanic/gay/female people will get free stuff, remember: republicans only care about hurting people they hate even at their own expense). They bought/rented/inherited their house why can't everyone else?

3. Federal Jobs Guarantee: opposed because people who don't have jobs now will be included (in reality, the objection is that black/Hispanic/gay/female people will be able to provide for themselves and their families, remember: republicans only care about hurting people they hate even at their own expense). They have had jobs, why can't everyone else? Of course, when they didn't have jobs, they collected welfare, but it's their right as white people, don't you see?

4. Gun Control: opposed because they hate anyone telling them they can't do something, like own flamethrowers. Remember as well that these people believe government should protect their own rights but not bind them to any laws. At the same time, they believe government should bind minorities to laws but not protect the minorities. To republicans, government and police are there to serve their own (white) interests and no one else's. So they want their own guns for their own protection against scary black people or scary brown people. "Crime is everywhere." - my father in law.

5. Criminal Justice Reform: opposed because they want as many minorities as possible in prison as they are a) scared of them and b) think all of them are criminals. Note that they have no problem paying more taxes for this, which illustrates the point that lower taxes is not, in fact, their goal. Most of them actually pay zero taxes.

6. Immigration Justice: see criminal justice reform. Plus, they are even more crazed about this topic as they believe that whites are being replaced (they are not wrong about this) and it drives them insane, so much so that they honestly don't care about concentration camps or nonworking walls (which they also have no problem paying taxes for).

7. Puerto Rico: they want PR to be a colony forever as they do not believe minorities should be citizens or have the right to vote. This is also why they oppose statehood for DC. They would oppose it even if Puerto Ricans voted Republican.

8. Climate Change: they like having big rigs and rolling coal and still live in 1962 so why would they want to do anything about climate change? To them, it is only affecting minorities in other countries anyway.

9. Campaign Finance: they like having big republican donors swamp minority and democratic candidates.

10. Higher education for all: their problem, again, is with the "all" part. Plus, they don't like education very much as they believe it to be liberal indoctrination.

11. Women's Rights: to them this is promotion of lesbianism and anti-patriarchial and a step on the road to liberalism.

12. Support gay people: they hate gay people, just like they hate every change in society since the Eisenhower administration. They were taught gay people were the equivalent of pedophiles and will never ever change their tiny little minds.

13. Support seniors: if it's only white seniors, then they are all in favor of that.

14. Curb wall street gambling: actually most of the rank and file conservatives would be okay with this as it doesn't benefit them and they don't like rich assholes any more than we do, unless those rich assholes support conservative causes.

No I think it's like wars.  America loves to talk about war, but whenever it's an actual war like WW1 or WW2 they pretend it's just not important anymore for as long as possible until it's 100% unavoidable.

Ain't no price limit on that car either.

I wouldn't go that far.  People still seem to want some age to their politicians, so I wouldn't expect her to be seen as nationally viable until she's around 40.

But if she wants to challenge Schumer for the Senate in the interim I'd be happy to see that happen.

I donated a twenty to her campaign and I live in WV. Also donated to Swearengin in our local Senate race, even though she stands no chance against Capito.
