Is Avebury a henge? If so, it's much bigger.

The term "henge" is often incorrectly thought to mean a circular structure of stone.[5] In fact, henge in archaeology refers to an enclosed structure made of compressed earth containing a ditch on the inside of the bank, giving the perception of keeping something inside the enclosure, rather than keeping out others. This would imply that Stonehenge is actually improperly named, as its ditch is located on the outside of the bank which means that it is not really a henge by the original archaeological definition.[6]

I got to see Avebury last year as part of a tour, i definitely recommend a stop if you think it'd be interesting. Just cool to walk among it all and they had a lot of sheep roaming around to add to atmosphere.

I have not come to terms with either "henge" or "hedgerow".

We went there ~15 years ago. It's very peaceful and very odd. There might have been 30 other people there. It's just plopped down at the edge of a village. "No big deal. 5000 years old."

Similar when I was there, not many people, you could really just roam around as you pleased. The other neat part is that you can just go right up to those huge stones and touch them like it is no big deal at all and people are actually respectful of it vs. other sites like that.

You know why Stonehenge stopped working?

The Druids lost the key to wind it.

I just realized we went to Avebury 20damn years ago now. Really needed to go back and see more of the Neolithic monuments in that area again.

You realize the sun doesn't go down,
