That sounds like a Styx song from the Paradise Theatre era with modern words.

between the use of Trumpian phrases like "fake news" and the zoom closeups of angry baby boomers...it doesn't really read like someone who isn't a Trump fan.

you peaked in 1981 dude.

Hard to take someone complaining about media companies wanting to make money too seriously when he then caves to pressure from "marketing" to turn his one album into two for the sake of making money

When Dana Carvey did his piano bit, "Choppin' broccoli..." wasn't he specifically making fun of Styx?

First time I heard it, I thought he was spoofing Denis DeYoung specifically, and I was about 9 at the time.

Simplistic, hackneyed message, complete lack of subtlety.

Yep.  It's a Dennis DeYoung tune.

Yeah, sadly this seems like a Trumpian call out, though I think the lyrics apply to the talking heads at Fox news. If he made it clearer that that was what he was talking about... sure. He does not.

Narrator: "At the Cotton Bowl in Texas, Styx was scheduled to follow some of the era's hardest-rocking acts.  Triumph.  Nugent.  Blue Oyster Cult.  Sammy Hagar was the special guest."

Garcia (record exec):  It started at like, 2:00 in the afternoon.  The temperature was probably about 203.  Everybody was getting terribly pissy with booze.  People running around, fistfights..."

Tommy Shaw: I'm thinking, "in a few minutes, I've got to walk out there and stand out on that stage for 10 minutes, going [flatly] 'But Kilroy...  What about ... the young people of America?'  They're gonna kill me.  I'm gonna die in Texas."

Garcia: "This was quaaludes, Jack Daniels, and 'show us your tits.'  They did not want to see robots, rubber suits, and (disdainfully) actors. By the end of Roboto, you could see that there was a traffic jam trying to get away from the stadium version of Kilroy.  It was depressing, it was heartbreaking, but we had to press on and we had to take ... (disdainfully) Shakespeare ... into a football stadium?  Disaster."

The very first day I taught my very first class (at a Midwestern performing arts college), full of vim and vigor, I wanted to let my very first group of students know I was really a lot like them--friendly and approachable and even cool. I made them form a circle with their desks and started off by asking them to introduce themselves and to say one thing they'd like everyone to know about them. One student volunteered that he was an avid drummer. So naturally I asked him, "Thats cool--what's your favorite band?" "Styx," he said. Now, this kid was like 18 or 19 years old and this was 1998. I wasn't sure I heard him right and said, "Styx? Did I hear you right? Styx?? Are you joking?" and moved on to the next student. Immediately after class, some other student came up to me and said, "Don't know who that guy's dad is? He's Styx's drummer."

That semester I had the worst course evaluations ever.

Dennis ruined Styx.

That's all.

I heard him on Gilbert Gottfried's podcast and he's just an old rich white guy that misses attention.  He mad a bunch of terrible, not even dad jokes, like dad jokes that are even less amusing.  By the end of the podcast i felt bad for him because he just seems needy.

Any other farkers that listen to that podcast, there's a good one up for the 40th anniversary of Airplane! with Robert Hays and Julie Hagerty.

For some reason, that's one of my favorite Styx songs.

But then again, I also liked Pluto Nash.

Never heard of them before, but I just checked out their site and they have some sweet stuff. If I played the guitars I already have enough to justify purchasing another one, I  would probably get one of them Levitations.

Just listening to that recollection is cringey. I can't even imAGine what it must have been like to be onstage with that shiat. It was the real life version of Jazz Odyssey Spinal Tap.

Looks like a custom version of a pelham blue Gibson SG Special. The shape of the horns doesn't look right to be an actual Gibson though.

I've seen him a couple times now and he really puts on a good show. This is from Feb. 23 this year and even though he thinks he is a captain it was a great show.
